Can anyone recommend a holiday cottage that accepts kids and a dog that's remote enough to switch off but close enough to do stuff? About 2 hours from Manchester

Can't recommend a cottage but I can a face book group that I've used

you post with where and when you want to go and owners of cottages post links to their sites. I found a lovely cottage in Norfolk (too far for you) through it and would def use it again.
Good luck looking

Under the Thatch holiday cottages are very nice and quite a few are dog friendly www.underthethatch.co.uk

Coniston, some are on the outskirts so a ten to fifteen minute walk. Lots to do in the Lakes.

Try Coppermines.
You can take a dog into lots of pubs too. You can in Coniston. Some great affordable places to eat.

Thanks all. Have had a look and posted on the group but still nothing as yet. Any more ideas

I would look at North Wales.
We often drive past this place

The area is stunning but only 10 minutes drive from Llangollen which is very dog friendly with plenty of shops and stuff going on, we eat here as they are very dog and children friendly.

Chester Shrewsbury if you fancy a longer ride out.
Horse shoe pass is nice ride.
This route isn't far away

Snaptrip is a good site and often has last minute deals.

Edale in the Peak District is a great base for walking and exploring. We actually stayed a couple of miles away in a very rural cottage but I can't remember the details unfortunately.
The town of Hope is also a good base.
