Ideas for a lovely birthday break

Looking to go somewhere for two or three nights in February, either home or abroad.

Budget is up to about £800 or so.

Could do a city break abroad, or maybe a few nights in London with a theatre trip, or maybe a spa hotel, or maybe something else.

I realise this is very vague, but just looking for ideas. What would you do?

Whereabouts are you?

Birmingham so can get train somewhere or fly.

Malaga. We were there 2 days ago but you can't explore the cafes or stroll along the seafront in a relaxed fashion with a 6yo.

Rome is amazing and won't be too busy at that time of year.

Bristol and Bath. Bristol has the best food and bars but for 2-3 nights I'd run out of things to do in the daytime. So I'd go to the spa in Bath and walk along the canal there.

Liking the sound of the spa in Bath.

Rome a good idea too.

Although still wondering about London if I can find a nice-ish hotel.

Budapest is good for a short break, I visited in February too.

Yes, I quite fancy Budapest too.

I'm just thinking that if we go to London or Bath or somewhere we save on flights so can get a really nice hotel.

Yeh I can see what you mean, we visited Bath last year and had a lovely time .

The Z Hotel in Piccadilly is fab. Really close to China Town/Leicester Square/Trafalgar and there is a two hour free cheese and wine session every evening - great in am expensive town!

Also Kraków. Cheap to get to with Jet2 and a fabulous place. Just beautiful and full of history. Also very cheap.

In the U.K. - how about Chester? Great for a weekend. Book a table at La Fattoria and try the weird and wonderful bars such as Prohibition and Paysan

Was looking at the Z hotels yesterday. They look v good.

I really want to go to Krakow.

Chester an interesting call too. It's actually the first place dp and I ever had a break together.

Barcelona? We stayed for my hubby's 40th the week before Xmas. We stayed on Ramblas de Catalunya which was a great location and the hotel was beautiful.
With flights it cost around £400 for both of us. The city is beautiful with so much to see and easy to get around, eating out is cheap too if you like local authentic food. And the plus side it's still warm in the day time

I've stayed in a few Z hotels including 2 in London, the one in Old Street (near Shoreditch) and the Soho one. The latter was an amazing location, right next to the Harry Potter Cursed Child theatre (Cambridge Circus?), area was buzzing when we arrived late at night and everything we needed a short walk away so only got the tube the days we arrived/went home.

Only thing to watch out for is some of the rooms are small and windowless! We didn't bother but you could potentially contact the hotel ahead to ask for one of the better rooms, or reject the first room offered if it's tiny.

They also have free cheese and wine between 5-8pm!
