London musical with kids - would you?

I’m a huge musical fan and would love my kids to experience it too. Dh isn’t fussed either way. We’re having a very short notice trip to London this weekend as my dsis has asked if we’d house sit for her as she had to work abroad. Dc’s are real country bumpkins and will almost certainly be thrilled just to play going around on the underground train all weekend but I’d really like to take us to a musical.

Dc’s are 7 and nearly 4 and I was thinking of taking them to see Lion King. The cheapest tickets I can find would still cost £240 for all 4 of us to go though. I can afford it but it would be a big treat and do you think it’s worth it? That would be for seats right at the back of the matinee performance.

Should I do it just for myself and ds1? Are there any other shows that anyone would recommend as an alternative?

We probably won’t t have another chance to stay in London for free for another couple of years so I’d really like to make the most of it. The other things we’re planning to do was NHM/ Science Museum, Tower of London and the Pokemon shop for obsessed dc1. Suggestions gratefully received. Not really interested in zoo or parks as got lots of that sttuff round here

I wouldn't want to sit at the back for lion king. You dont really get the best view or experience.

Dc1 is 5 and has seen 4 london musicals already but he is as obsessed with them as I am. We usually do matinees so that he isn't too tired, but the one time we did an evening show I made sure we had the most chilled out day leading up to it.
Will your youngest manage a long show after a long and tiring day in london or will they be irritable and potentially play up?

Also have children this age and whist i also love musicals I don't think at that age my children would appreciate seeing a musical in London as opposed to one in our theatre, but we live in a city so do get musicals coming to us including lion king.

What they have enjoyed is the underground, we usually do the boat trip and the emerites cable car.
They really enjoyed the Tower of London but at that age as we went a few months ago it is still a lot of walking and quite exhausting for them.

I think we’ll do the evening performance with just me and dc1. Ifdc1 is too tired he’ll just fall asleep during it rather than kick off likes 2 would.

I was thinking of doing Postal Museum on the Sunday morning. Has anyone been and would you recommend it for a 3 year old and 7 year old?

I think just you and your eldest in the evening is a great idea. Enjoy!

Took DD to see Joseph at age 4. She was absolutely transfixed!

Never did lose the bug! Now early 20s she is at drama school studying musical theatre. So be warned you never know where it will lead! Smile

We did a local (family friendly) show with my 31/2 year old recently. She was beautifully quite and transfixed by the show but she was a bit squirmy and wanted to sit on my knee. I decided I wouldn’t do a west end show with her for at least another year mainly because of the squirming as it wouldn’t be fair on other people. I think she’d be better in the theatre because of the interval than the cinema so I think she’ll see another show before she does a film.
