UK minibreak for 30th birthday

DP turns 30 in July and just a few days later our DD turns 2. He's a very low-key guy and has stated he doesn't want a fuss, just wants to do something all three of us.

I'd love to book a few nights away somewhere in the UK as he is not crazy about travelling abroad. Due to other commitments next year, I don't have a massive budget, maybe around £600? I know this could be a challenge due to school holidays and peak pricing but I'm happy to wait until the beginning of September if we cant find anything in our budget!

He is a big kid at heart and also enjoys taking things at a slow pace. Parks, swimming, zoos, little cafes etc are all up our street, especially with DD. We're based in South West Scotland but happy to consider anywhere.

Any ideas would be much appreciated, have never really done a UK break before. Thanks in advance. Smile

We love Pickering in N Yorkshire. It has a good indoor pool with a flume and a pirate-themed inflatable assault course. It's less than 10 minutes drive from Flamingo Land (theme park and zoo), 15 minute drive from Dalby Forest (bike hire, 2 play areas, cafe, themed activity trail) and half an hour from Whitby and Scarborough. You can catch the steam train (the one used in Harry Potter) from Pickering to Whitby which is an experience in itself. Whitby is great for crabbing and rockpooling.
Last time we went we also spent a day in York (It took us 35 minutes to drive) and went to the Jorvik Viking museum, climbed the Minster, Castle Howard and walked the walls.

I’m looking at booking something similar for a 40th! Think I’m going to go for lodges with a hot tub near aysgarth falls.

We go to Center Parcs a lot so it won’t work as well for us for the surprise 40th but if you haven’t been, it’s such an easy, enjoyable, stress free break with little ones.

Northumberland. Great beaches, food, walks, castles. Lovely cottages to stay in.
