Hols in Peak District - child-friendly places to visit?

We're off to Buxton for a few days soon with DD (nearly 4) and DS (2.6), and once we get there we don't want to travel too far.
We're planning to go to the farm and playground at Chatsworth, to Buxton Pavilion Gardens and maybe on the Peak Rail from Rowsley to Matlock. Any other ideas? I've ruled out the Castleton caverns because they all seem to have lots of steps and DS isn't keen on cave-type places. We've also done Matlock and the Heights of Abraham quite recently, so looking for attractions slightly further north.
Any recommendations of cafes etc welcome too!
Thanks!

Chatsworth House is fab our dd loved the farm.
There is a lovely pub called Grouse and The Claret or something like that which we took our dd to on evening and they where very tolerant It was on the road from Matlock to Bakewell near Rowsley. Food is lovely

There is also a pub near eyam, with a sort of soft play attached to it, somewhere called the Eyam arms I think
Sorry cant be more specific, we had a week there in June when all the floods came, so did not venture too far.

Also near the Grouse And Claret is Peak Village, a sort of shopping outlet place that also has a nice cafe. Chatsworth is indeed lovely. Gulliver's Kingdom is meant to be good for little ones but I've not been, so can't confirm that.

birdly I take it if you have done Matlock you have been to Gullivers in M Bath which is fabbbbby for little ones

Agree with yr DS re caves so skip Castleton. Do you like walking? there's loads of that in the Peaks (try googling walks) but maybe a bit much for 4yo. DS could be in carrier?

Bakewell is nice for a wander around and a Bakewell pudding and ther's a nice playground (swins etc) on the outskirts, also framers' market last sat of the month. Chatsworth yes lovely.

this site might help too.

South of Bakewell is a place called Caudwell Mill - you can look round and the cafe is pretty good.

Canal boat?? - or too boring for your dcs? I know there are some from Whaley Bridge - just N of Buxton.

you can hire bikes/ seats whatever and ride the tissington trail which is a disused rail line.
i like the walk to the seven sisters stone circle - if you're 2 yr old will go in a backpack still.
chatsworth is fab - i might splash out on the family 2 day pass because the fountains and cascade are amazing, but we can never afford to go if we go to the playground too - best adventure playground i've evr been to - remember buckets and spades.

oooh if going to Chatsworth remember changes of clothes!

There's sand and water play which mine love but they will get filthy so have spares in your bag and maybe a hand towel as well.

Thanks everyone - really helpful!

Don't think we can do much walking as we'd have to take 2 pushchairs - DD not keen on walking and DS built like brick outhouse!

We'll definitely be trying out Chatsworth and the Bakewell Pudding Shop - but thanks for the tip about canal boats, that sounds fab! Might take our bikes, too.

Padley Gorge if the weather is hot is an ideal paddling spot, 2 min walk from the road as well. Its near Grindleford, which has quite possibly the best cafe in The Peak.
