We’re staying in Stow on the Wold for a couple of days over the Oct half-term. Any suggestions of how we can keep the kids amused? They’re not massively keen on country walks (unfortunately)!

There's the model village and bird land, cotswold wildlife park.
Or are you after free stuff?

TheresWaldo · 10/10/2019 10:18

If they like Harry Potter - Lacock village is home to a lot of filming locations.

Thanks for the ideas. They do like Harry Potter and the model village sounds great. I've heard that there's an amazing playground in Broadway - is that still the case? Is it easy to find?

Lacock is a long way south though.

There are water sports options at Cotswold water park.

BlueChampagne · 10/10/2019 13:13

Roman stuff in Cirencester and Chedworth Roman Villa.
Also Snowshill if you're NT members.

Cotswolds farm park. May be a bit young for your ages, but they may have some particular activities on that week?

Spice04 · 10/10/2019 13:17

Oh, and the playground at Broadway is quite good, it's at the end of the high street.

FlatterNow · 10/10/2019 13:19

The playground in Broadway is pretty good, or was last time I visited - not sure I'd say amazing! There's the All Things Wild nature and safari park at Honeybourne that has loads of activities, depending on how much you're happy to spend.

www.crocodilesoftheworld.co.uk/ this is good for an afternoon.
Or Blenheim Palace - great maze to enjoy and lovely grounds if the weather is nice.

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 10/10/2019 18:29

Blenheim has unfortunately got very expensive recently

Birdland is really near Stow, at Bourton. Next to that is the dragonfly maze, which is surprisingly good. Round the corner is the model village. Few food pubs in the bit too, for lunch. That would fill most of a day.

Kenilworth Castle is close ish to Stow, maybe 30 mins north? It's English Heritage, if you're members. Really good.

Cotswold Wildlife Park is brilliant. 20 mins South of Stow. Ish.

Broadway playground is good, but parking can be a bit tricky.

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 10/10/2019 18:31

There's this place, if they like climbing. It's small, but would be good for a rainy afternoon.

Sudley Castle is lovely and has an amazing play area and is fascinating.

The Farm Park has a special Halloween event on and is good fun.

Cotswold Wildlife Park is very nice too.

BelleSausage · 10/10/2019 18:36

Also, of the National Trust places there’s Hidecote Manor and Snowshill, which is right next to Broadway.

Cotswold Wildlife Park is our fave 👍 Cotswold Farm Park (Adam Henson's place, countryfile), Bourton on the Water is pretty for a mooch and has the model village, birdland and a maze. Burford Garden Centre is worth an hour or so just to see how the other half live, amazing orchids, paintings and furniture not just plants, occasional live opera, and delicious food, I had the most awesome Thai curry there, pretty authentic, bit of a play area. Cotswold water park could be an option, not sure how long the drive would be. Loads of nice pubs of course, try to get out to some in the countryside. There's a mechanical music museum and a wool museum at Northleach I think, I haven't been so don't know what they're like. There's crocodile world somewhere handy which I've heard is good!
