London for a teenage boy

Paddy1234 · 19/09/2019 15:47

Just that really.
Wondering about going down to London for a few days and what may appeal to a 15 year old boy.
We have been before and done all the usual attractions - science museum, Madame Tussaud's etc but looking for maybe something a little 'left field'
Any suggestions would be welcome

Also, climb the O2, go up the Shard, speedboat on the Thames...

Camden market maybe, or one of the less well known markets. I'm a bit out of touch but there's loads.

Go for a swim at the Olympic pool in Stratford. The maritime museum in Greenwich is good and has some climate change stuff if he's interested in that. Great street food at Greenwich market too. Or Nando's overlooking the river 😊

Sorry OP, I have no advice for you but Can I be cheeky & jump in on this post and ask for advice on tube fares for a teenager?
I'm taking my train geek son to the LTM Acton depot open day next weekend but I'm a bit baffled about paying for his tube journey now he's over 11. I don't want to pay the £15 for a child's Oyster card & I guess he'll pay the adult fare if he swipes his contactless card..
Any advice would be greatly appreciated please Smile

Depends what he’s up for and what’s on on the days you’re there.
Teens of my acquaintance would variously enjoy HMS Belfast, the Tabletop Gaming show, shopping at Camden Market, hand-feeding wild parakeets in Kensington Gardens, Acton transport museum, RAF Hendon museum, Cabinet War Rooms, skyscraper spotting in the City, Tower Bridge experience, ghost walks, musicals, galleries, Harry Potter walks, UCL It’s All Academic festival....

In theory you can get an Oyster card endorsed by a member of staff to charge the child rate for a couple of days.

Brick Lane. Nike World on Oxford Street. Camden Market.

Thank you all so much!
Some absolutely great ideas that have already put to my family and will definitely be doing.
Love the idea of the RiB ride nd treasure hunt through places we haven't visited.

We did a Roman London day out last year, doing the Guildhall gladiator arena, the Wall and the temple of Mithras.
