Hotel in Edinburgh

I want to spend a few days in Edinburgh this autumn. I’ve never been to Scotland and have decided it’s time I explored the U.K. a bit more instead of just going abroad.

I will probably travel by train and would like to stay fairly central. The Castle is on my list of places to visit but I don’t really know what else there is.

My budget isn’t huge so I’d appreciate advice about any good budget hotels if there is such a thing. I’ve had a quick look in Trivago but not found much that appeals in my budget which ideally would be less than £100 a night.

The Radisson is fab. It can be lower than £100, but on other dates can be super expensive.

There are several Premier Inns that are more than adequate and always spotlessly clean.

Try Air BnB? Cheaper than hotels. Most things in Edinburgh are a rip off, the Castle being one of them. Botanic gardens are free, I think, and just walking about in Edinburgh is interesting. Walk the Royal Mile from Castle to Holyrood House. it’s free to visit the Scottish Parliament, probably the world’s ugliest building, but interesting if you are into politics. Princes St Gardens are free for picnics etc if the weather is nice. Museum in Chambers Street also free and you can kill a lot of time there on a rainy day

For my hen do we stayed at the travel lodge central princes street. It was clean, and tidy and a great location. We got a really good deal.
Yes there were a few hen do groups staying there but also families and business people.
I'd go again and stay there with my family.
This was 4 years ago though. Might be one to look up on trip advisor!

Premier Inn Hub - Edinburgh Royal Mile!

Art galleries galore, if you're into those. Several Travel Lodges which are reasonably priced.

Edinburgh Zoo
Ghost tours
Camera Obscura
Arthur's Seat
Cycle along Cramond promenade on hired bikes (parked on the front)
There is a city bus tour
Just go into the Tourist Information and you'll pick up lots of ideas
I actually think the Castle is well worth a visit.

The apex at grass market is really nice. If you want central Edinburgh it's worth paying a little bit more than budget if you can afford it

We stayed in a Travelodge just off the Royal Mile, surprisingly quiet but well located.

Inforthelonghaul · 16/09/2019 20:09

Brilliant thank you, lots here to investigate. I’m very excited, Edinburgh looks like a beautiful city.

The tram has made it easy to get to hotels further out west. Stayed at the Novotel recently which was nice and quiet yet only 10 min to Haymarket.

Arthur's Seat/Salisbury crags, Camera Obscura, the zoo (book the pandas for free before you go) and just wandering round all recommended.

Ginger1982 · 16/09/2019 20:23

When are you thinking of going?

ChefsFloozie · 16/09/2019 20:26

I’ve had a couple of really nice stays at the Elder York guest house

Mummy2one2016 · 16/09/2019 20:35

The holiday inn on Corstorphine road . It's not right in the centre just under 4 miles out. But is really lovely and reasonably priced. It has a gym and swimming pool which is open late. It's also right next door to the zoo and includes half price entry when you stay. There is a bus stop right out side that takes you into the centre. We have been staying there nearly every year for about 10 years and have had no issues.

I stayed in a gorgeous little place called 94 DR.
Really lovely and not too expensive.

grannycab · 16/09/2019 20:40

Premier Inn on Princes Street...really central and close to everything.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 16/09/2019 20:54

Motel One in the centre is usually well priced. Lots of great places you can go to for free: National Museum of Scotland, and on the Royal Mile, the Museum of Edinburgh, the Museum of Childhood, and the People’s Story. Art galleries also mostly free.
