Holiday in the north

Hi, I am heading up north with the family in a couple of weeks (2 adults 2 kids) and I am looking for some things to do. We are quite active and through doing my research i stumbled across Chill Factore. Has anyone been before? Is it as good as it sounds? Does anyone have any other recommendations of places to visit while we are up there?

Whereabouts are you staying?

PickAChew · 28/08/2019 23:24

That link gives me a warning.

Sunbeam18 · 28/08/2019 23:24

'The north'? Where? Scotland, north of England?

Hoppinggreen · 28/08/2019 23:26

THE NORTH is quite a big place, Chill factore is at The Trafford centre in Manchester I think, are you going to Manchester?

TheCumbrian · 28/08/2019 23:26

'The North' Grin

Chill Factore is apparently quite good. But we would consider it to be down south here.

ParkheadParadise · 28/08/2019 23:27

I think the chill factore is in Manchester.

ErrolTheDragon · 28/08/2019 23:30

Well ... we used the Chill Factore for some skiing lessons for DD before she went on school ski trips. It's fine for that, if expensive, but I honestly can't imagine why anyone visiting 'the north' would choose to go there rather than the many other possibilities.

Where are you staying, what sorts of things do you like doing and how old are the kids?

TapasForTwo · 28/08/2019 23:31

The North is a bit ambiguous

ParkheadParadise · 28/08/2019 23:34

I only know about the chill factore, because my niece went on a school trip there.

I'm in Glasgow

DustyD2 · 28/08/2019 23:39

We're on hols in the Lake District with our kids at the moment. There is so much to do, and it's beautiful! I'd come here!

Ps The north is huge! I'm a southerner but hubby is northern. I used to think Birmingham was in the north until I met him Smile

IrregularCommentary · 28/08/2019 23:40

I'd be careful. I hear winter is coming.

Schwibble · 28/08/2019 23:42

Where in 'the north'??

Can highly recommend Northumberland, Holy Island, Bamburgh...but so many places in northern England are beautiful and well worth a visit.

CatsForLife · 28/08/2019 23:49

Yeah, my first thought is the Chill Factore in boating The North. Brilliant Hmm

CatsForLife · 28/08/2019 23:49

Visiting not boating!

ErrolTheDragon · 28/08/2019 23:51

Can highly recommend Northumberland, Holy Island, Bamburgh

Definitely... we live in the north west and it's one of the places we'd go on holiday to. (Bamburgh is 199 miles from the Chill Factore, over 3hrs drive. Further than eg bristol, nearly as far as London. )

C0untDucku1a · 28/08/2019 23:51

Well trafford wouldn't be my ideal holiday spot. Go further notth. Head to cumbria.

NorberErratics · 28/08/2019 23:58

Or the Yorkshire Dales.

CuriousMama · 29/08/2019 00:03

Beamish museum.

Sunbeam18 · 29/08/2019 12:03

C0untDucku1a · 29/08/2019 16:55

So true @TheCumbrian, I don't even class Leeds as being in the north so Manchester has no chance.

cannycat20 · 01/09/2019 20:17

As others have said, it depends on what part of "The North" and what you like doing...if you like edgy stuff, Manchester will suit you, and parts of Newcastle (though overall it's a bit more laid-back than Manchester most of the time - yes, I do know both cities).

If you like peace, quiet and empty beaches, head for Northumberland, anywhere north of Newcastle.

If you like things to do for kids, then Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle will suit you.

If you like driving, Northumberland will be fine; central Manchester, not so much. If you'd rather get around by public transport, Newcastle will be perfect; Manchester has a pretty good public transit system too (though locals may disagree, if they compare it with most other places they'll realise just how good it is). If you like castles and interesting architecture going back to the Romans at least, Newcastle and Northumberland.

Lots of factors to bear in mind!

We've been to chill factore in Manchester, We had a beginners ski lesson which was ok but we did not really get to ski much as the group was so big and each person had to take it in individual turns. We used a groupon but I'd have been annoyed off I'd paid full price.

They enjoyed the snowpark - slides, again look for a deal or groupon as it's v expensive.

What sort of things do you like doing so we can recommend stuff?

FrancescaWilson1 · 20/09/2019 11:42

Hi, Just wondering if you have been up North on your holiday yet? and did you go to Chill factore?

We are from north wales and in need to take our three kids skiiing lessons in time for our skiing holiday after the new year.

I have seen a deal on their website for beginners ski lessons - www.chillfactore.com/offers/lesson-offers/beat-the-rush-99-lessons/ski-beat-the-rush/ and just wondering if this is a good deal. Couldn't see any groupon deals.

I have heard so many good things about Chill Factore and the lessons are top notch. Just wanting to book onto this deal quickly as runs out in Sept. I will go ahead if others believe this is a good deal.

Thanks!
