We're off to a cottage between Clovelly and Bideford for a week. Apart from beach type stuff are there any must-sees or must-dos?

Would also love recommendations for restaurants and the best fish & chips!

there are sea cruises at ilfracombe that take you to caves waterfall and seals and dolphins (I think) it The sort of actively they can either sit and ignore or really enjoy.

Westwood Ho! is pleasant has amusements, go karts and crazy golf and stuff. If you trust them enough you could get comfy on the beach and let them explore on thier own.

I'll think of some more.

You could hire bikes at bideford and cycle all the way down the river to Instow and further. There are 2 great places to eat right next door to each other in Instow too, The boat House and Instow arms, they are right on the beach and have beautiful sunsets.

There are boat trips to Lund island. But not sure how your teen would tolerate being stuck on an island nearly all day with mainly wildlife.

MoobaaMoobaa · 18/08/2019 18:56

there this place too, but again will depend on how active/sulky sort of teen you have.

Then there is the usual sight seeing, Cloveley's quite nice, Boscastle and Tinagel just over the boarder in Cornwall, it's around 3/4 to an hour journey.

There isn't much there at Boscastle but it's pretty enough and has the Museum of witch craft.

Tinagel has a castle to explore.

The RHS garden at Rosemoor is wonderful. I particularly loved the kitchen gardens. Seeing how your food grows is great for kids that age. There was a croquet lawn with all the kit and instructions. We had a lovely time.

U,timate Adventure was great when I did it with slightly younger DC, they did high wires, there is zorbing and wipeout course

You can swim with seals off
Lundy now - try Wild Frontiers. It is quite honestly awesome.

TwigTheWonderKid · 18/08/2019 20:20

That all sounds brilliant! DS1 is not very sulky generally. He does get sea sick though but the idea of swimming with seals may be irresistable!

Eating out, I never did find The Pig in the Hill but it was always recommended, The view from the top deck of The Pier House is amazing and the food wa pretty good as well but that was a few years ago.

littlebitbroken · 18/08/2019 20:32

Theres a new Pig as well
In Westward Ho! With great sea views too.

Definitely the aqua park at the Milky Way, our kids absolutely loved it and you can all do it together x

If they are walkers at all then there are lots on the sw coast path. I love Brownsham for a mix of woodland and coastal scenery - the Hartland peninsula is lovely in general. Bude is quite a good place for surfing, has the sea pool, got some shops to potter around in etc. Sylvesters fish and chips in Appledore is always popular - just a takeaway but can sit on the quayside if it's a nice evening. Lynton and Lynmouth are worth a day trip imo - lots of walks (valley of the rocks, watersmeet) and the cliff railway. Boscastle is stunning.

Also, Keypitts quadbiking near Ilfracombe.
