Where to take child with asd en route to Lyn peninsula fromLondon?

I need a place to stay for a few nights en route to Lyn peninsular in Wales from London. It must be somewhere not too busy with holiday makers as I have a son with autism and a 20 month old abs we need an escape from crowds and not too much of a diversion. A beautiful spot with safe spaces to run wild would be great. I need to divide up the journey. I’m panicking about the trip so any suggestions would be hugely appreciated!

Look at Macclesfield forest area, it's lovely, the lowland area has marked footpaths suitable for all. My dd has asd and we chose business type hotels because less likely to encounter other kids (their misbehaving upset her because they broke "the rules") any chain hotel would work, we tended to go for holiday inns but I don't have a specific recommendation there because we were camping

Stucknoue thanks so
Much that sounds great- I was thinking myself that my son would enjoy chain hotels but he’s very noisy and high energy and I think he’d bother the other guests. Did you stay at Holiday Inn in this area then?

It looks like Macclesfield might be a bit further north and might add a bit too long to the trip as my toddler is not keen on being in the car. Can anyone suggest any other stops?

Have a look at places in the Forest of Dean. There are some great forest walks and loads of places to let off steam. You can be as reclusive or out there as much as you like! There are cottages, camping, glamping etc. Otherwise maybe the same sort of thing in the Brecon Beacons? Loads of space and outdoor stuff plus it's a good route through Wales to get to the Llyn Peninsula.

Good luck x

Your UK map must be radically different to mine Sawyers🚻☺

...? M4 from London? Over Severn Bridge and you can go through NW through Brecon? Or with a diversion east from Chepstow go to Forest of Dean or head up to Gloucester on M5 and head west to FOD and then up through Monmouth, Abergavenny, Brecon and up to the NW coast and Llyn Peninsula.

I'm guessing you're thinking M40 PP? I love Wales so was thinking the scenic route would be more exciting.

Have a look at Caerphilly. Not very touristy.

CottonSock · 06/08/2019 16:49

Are you going up top of Wales via a55, or through middle?

Serin · 06/08/2019 21:36

Would you consider a private room in a youth hostel?
They are generally very accepting and inclusive places and IME have never minded kids running around.

I’ve only just seen all three additional
Posts thanks so much/ I’m

I’ve decided to stop in kiddiminster and stay at the Travelodge as I think my son will really enjoy that actually - thanks stickhoue. However , I was 💭 no if taking them to the West Midlands safari park but I really didn’t find the staff that positive when I rang to ask about access. Can anyone recommend any nice place to take my 5 year old son with asd and 20 month old active daughter in this area where I might singlehandedly keep an eye on them both without expiring? We leave tomorrow so I’d hugely appreciate some pointers.

Why not try the Severn Valley Railway, everybody likes a ride on a steam train.
