surely people do live north of edinburgh? then why is it that finding information on roads and services and places is sooooo impossible?
i want to plan second leg of my journey to the highlands. picnic stops, toilet stops etc. we will need to take the A9 north about two hundred miles from edinburgh. does anyone know of places we can stop at?

Hi cylon, I think the info is hard to find because there really are no services up that way.

I'll try and remember what I can. OK...Perth is very close to Ed so I assume you won't be stopping there.

House of Bruar at Bruar is probably just over an hour from Perth and has a lurvly restaurant (though quite pricey), wee shops etc and the most marvelous toilets ever known

After that it would be somewhere in Aviemore then your nearly at Inverness (huge Tesco just off the A9 before the Kessock Bridge).

Hope this helps a wee bit. We're heading up the road on saturday to Inverness and I don't really know any further north.

I'll try to help!

We stayed in Aberfeldy last summer which is lovely but may be off your beaten track. Perth is lovely as is Crieff. There's an animal park near Crieff called Auchingarrich Wildlife Centre, Comrie, Perthshire. That was well nice but don't know if it's far enough up fo ryou.

Be warned I got food poisoning in a Hungry Horse pub in Perth
