Torquay & Surrounding Area

We are heading to Torquay this weekend (Friday - Sunday). Typically after weeks of nice weather, it looks like a weekend of rain to coincide nicely with the start of the school holidays (very poor planning on our part!).

Can anyone recommend things to do in the area with DD (aged 2), in wet weather? Some outdoor suggestions would be great too, just incase! We don't mind driving out to places.

Thanks! Grin

Babbacombe model village might be worth a visit, not sure about in the wet tho...

Living coasts is good and is in Torquay. The Miniature Pony Centre in Newton Abbott is highly recommended by a friend who visited recently. There's also Paignton Zoo nearby.

I'll check these out, thank you!

The model village is mostly outdoors but there's an indoor 4D cinema thing and it is really fun to wander around the village so worth getting waterproofs on!

Steam train and paddle steamer?

And if the weather is better than expected, a ferry trip across to Brixham is cheap. You can either come back on the ferry or the bus.

Kents Cavern prehistoric caves are a good wet weather activity. There are children’s activities like face painting, ice age animal hunt and digging for gem stones.
Paignton Pier is good fun, if it’s not raining! There are trampolines, a bouncy slide, water boats, bumper cars, shooting range, helter skelter and some kids’ coin-operated rides. You can also grab a photograph in one of the giant deckchairs or the traditional fun ‘head-in-the-hole’ cut out boards. And there’s plenty of seating available to rest, relax and enjoy the views.
Dartmouth Steam Rail is another option for wet weather.

I loved Babbacombe model village! Really worth a visit even if wet, you can take an umbrella after all.

The weather forecast isn't wall to wall rain though which is good news! So long as you've got a waterproof coat you'll be fine.

Day trip to Dartmouth, crabbing along the river wall, fish and chip lunch.

Steam train from Paignton.
