Thinking of Jersey rather last minute looking to go in two weeks or so. I really fancy hotel (someone else to cook) Grin but self catering ok too. 2 adults 1 or 2 kids.

I think England and Wales will have the same May half term (the week of the late May bank holiday) due to GCSEs.

Other half terms are often not in sync which may or may not be an advantage. e.g. In the past we have taken advantage of half term children's activities at Hamptonne, the zoo etc.

Scotland and NI may well be different as they have different exam systems.

I love Jersey, I relax as soon as we arrive

Yes, although I did find it a bit busier this year - usually we go there in May half term but we went in early July this year due to GCSEs. Weather is usually good, we've had the odd rubbish day but never a wash out.

I've stayed at Greenhills hotel, which was lovely. I loved Jersey.

el Tico in St Ouen, lazin lizard and noya Shapla in St Aubin all well worth a visit - if you are looking for restaurant recommendations.

Jersey bound in 2 weeks. Went last year and had the most relaxing time ever.

Jersey is somewhere I have looked at but we have never got round to visiting - could I ask for some recs for self-catering (2 adults / 2 DC)? Where are the nicest areas to stay with the safest beaches for DC?

Also, how do those of you who are frequent visitors travel - ferry or fly? If flying, how easy is it to get around without a car, or do you hire one?

TeenTimesTwo · 31/07/2019 15:38

We take the slow boat - the Commodore Clipper - from Porstmouth. it takes all day to get there, and all night to get home but is a much more pleasant journey than the fastcat if the weather is alt all rough.

If time is tight eg a half term we might fly or we send DH on the boat and I fly with DC. If just flying we have always hired a car. However we like flitting around the place and don't just go to more tourist places. The buses go to all the main places though.

My recommendation for 'nicest safe beach with children' would be Greve de Lecq. We also like Ouaisne but there is less there.

There are 2 companies which deal with self catering. Freedom Holidays and Macoles. Places with fab views tend to be more expensive than others. Peak season can be £££ but we have got good deals before for Easter / Oct half term. Places do book up early, for the summer we often book in the September before.

The Prince Of Wales Hotel at Greve de Lecq has 1 really nice self catering apartment and would be a fab place to stay if you were anticipating spending lots of time at the local beach. But quite ££.

Just booked a Jersey Seafari along the North Coast. We did one to the Ecrehous a couple of years ago and saw dolphins. Just have to hope we get good weather for it now. Smile

I love Jersey! Reminds me of my childhood as we used to go every year.

wizzler · 02/08/2019 18:56

Teen I have also just booked the North coast Seafari..

probstimeforanewname · 09/08/2019 11:22

I would love to go to Chausey on a Seafari but they only go once in a blue moon because it's difficult to get to from Jersey and I wouldn't want to book and then have gale force winds!

As for safe beaches, St Brelades or St Ouens, both have lifeguards.

We fly but we took the ferry in the early years of going as ds was small and it was easier to fill up the car - and we had the car to travel around But we've "done" the sights so now we fly and get a bus pass when there. The distances are surprisingly small and you can cycle from one side of the island to the other in 25 minutes. Walking is also an option a lot of the time.

probstimeforanewname · 09/08/2019 11:23

That's north to south by bike - east to west is quite a bit further.

On way home now. Loved Jersey but flight back to Doncaster delayed by at least 6 hours Confused I don't want to think about what happens when the charge on the kids phones runs out! Thanks a lot Flybe!
