Weekend UK break, 2 adults and a dog

Hi DH and I would like to take a short break with the dog and would love some recommendations please. We have never holidayed with the dog before and I have no idea where to go.

We obviously need a dog friendly place and it needs to be accessible by train from London as we are dependant on public transport. I wouldn’t like the dog to spend more than a couple of hours on the train.

Nice walks and a good pub would be lovely.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Thanks! St Albans is lovely but we visit quite regularly as we have family there (have never taken our dog though)! X

The Hope Valley- Hathersage, Hope or Edale.

We stayed in a nice pub in Hope that allows dogs in the bar. I'm sure you could find a self catering around there that accepts dogs.

As dog friendly places go, you’re certainly hard pushed to beat Brighton. Many shops, bars and cafes allow dogs. From October to April, you can take your dog on any Brighton beach. During the summer, from May to September, there are a few restrictions, as the beaches get crowded but there are plenty of dog-friendly spots on a few beaches all year round. The beaches between the West Marina Wall and Rottingdean slope are summertime dog-friendly (the local Ovingdean Café is too), as are the beaches between the west of the Brighton Marina and up to Volks Railway Aquarium station, the beach opposite Holland Road, the beach to the west of the King Alfred Park and the beach opposite Berridale/Welback – which is particularly lovely, as it leads through to a lagoon.

American style restaurant The New Club is great for brunch. Water bowls are provided free - just ask if you need one. My other top picks would be The Ginger Dog and/or Cup of Joe, in Kemptown, the Laughing Dog at the Brighton Marina, or Metrodeco, that even do doggy tea parties!

Hotel du Vin is a dog friendly hotel in Brighton perfectly positionedon the edge of the Lanes conservation area. Dogs are welcome in all rooms and public areas with the exceptions of the Bistro du Vin restaurant. There’s a small fee for bringing a dog, but in exchange they provide a bowl and a comfy bed.
If you’re staying in the Hotel du Vin, then you must try eating at the Pub du Vin, located next door in the old Sussex Arts Club. The pub is beautiful inside and incredibly smart, decorated with paintings and lovely deco-style light fixtures. The menu is superb – classic bistro food – and it’s worth trying the local ales and guest beers here. Dogs are welcome throughout.
