National trust Cornwall

Is it worth getting national trust membership for a week in Cornwall? How could we make the most of this if we did?

A lot of beach car parks are national trust so that saves on parking money. There are quite a few national trust places to visit in cornwall. What part are you staying?

Just look at the places at home that you could also go to, its not cheap!

Thanks for replies. There is nothing back home. One or two spots that are free anyway. We are staying near Falmouth. I think maybe it's not worth it. If carpark are £5ish a day, the most we will spend is £35.00. We want to see Eden project and heligans Gardens and a few beaches.
I think it's not going to be worth it. They offer weekly passes for about £30.00 but you have to not be a UK citizen to apply.

These extra places aren't NT so maybe not worth it

We're staying near Falmouth this summer too. I have taken out NT membership. We sat down and looked at what we wanted to do whilst we were there (and on both journeys) and decided to go for it. I've already used it to visit somewhere ~45 minutes away 4 times though!

I live in Cornwall and whilst I am a NT member there aren't really that many NT properties in the county. I tend to go to the same places over and over. And as a pp says, it saves on car parking at certain beaches.

I wouldn't bother if I was coming down for a week.

Madcats · 27/06/2019 11:46

We tend to use NT properties en route to wherever we are going and make a day of the journey.

You can pretty much guarantee that you can get a light lunch/decent cup of tea, and that there will be clean loos and a play area. It does feel a bit rude whizzing round a house in 30 minutes, though!

Lanhydrock (just off the A38) has a nice adventure playground. St Michael's Mount is lovely too (but is probably further away than you want to go).

JustMarriedBecca · 27/06/2019 21:54

I'm here right now. The beach NT car parks we've been to have been £2.50 a day but free for members. We have done Tresslick (Gardens) and St Michaels Mount and some en route here. Eden Project and Heligan are ok but one day (they are close together and offer special rates - use your clubcard vouchers).

Basically, I think yes it's worth it for the places to stop off on your journey and whilst you are here. If you are here for a week you'll need something to do on the other 6 days.

Get Gardeners World 2for1 offer from a few months ago for the Eden Project. Will save you a bit!

Greyworm · 28/06/2019 07:29

Ooh thanks for the tips! I think we will drive around to landmarks while we are there so St Michael's Mount is on the list :)

St Ives and Godrevy Beach are fantastic as well. Only the car park I guess but if you get a chance the cafe is ace.

Where are you staying? We have been to:

Lanhydrock House near Bodmin lovely old bits and fascinating insight into Victorian life

Cotehele in the Tamar Valley, one of my favourites but on the border with Devon

Lots of other coastal places, e.g. on The Lizard

Glendurgen garden near Falmouth. Lovely wild garden with maze on the Helston river

St Michaels Mount

Holywell and Crantock beaches near Newquay

Bedruthen Steps between Newquay and Wadebridge

Levant Mine and beam engine
