Liverpool - Mal Maison or Titanic Hotel?

I'm taking DH to Liverpool for a surprise weekend in a couple of months. I think I've narrowed it down to Mal Maison or Titanic Hotel but can't pick between them. (I did look at A Hard Day's Night but I'm not a Beatles fan and I think the theming will be annoying.)

And then just when I think I've made a decision, I waver and wonder if we should just book the Premier Inn closer to the centre and spend the extra money on going out for dinner, as a hotel room is just a hotel room at the end of the day.

Can anyone help with my indecision?

Oohhhhh, both lovely hotels and I love Liverpool fir a weekend away Smile

I'd go for the Titanic as it looks amazing - it's just that bit further from the centre so as long as your happy to walk/taxi it looks great.

What sort of things are you interested in seeing in Liverpool? The Titanic Hotel is quite a way from the city centre.

Malmaison is closer to the city centre and Hard Days Night is right on Matthew Street so perfect to stumble back from a nightcap, although it can be noisy into the early hours.
I’ve been to a work function at the Titanic and I can’t say I was blown away by it, can’t say for the rooms though. It’s a taxi ride from the city centre

We were in Liverpool recently for the weekend. We looked at the Titanic but agreed it was too far to walk and we like walking. We ended up in the Hilton. Right beside John Lewis. Couldn't have been better location wise but not really romantic or luxury!

Have a look at the Holiday Inn Express Albert Dock... May be a good compromise between the Titanic and a Premier Inn!

Just planning on mooching around really. I think DH would like the 'theatre' of these two, though tbh he'll probably just be thrilled with a surprise weekend away with DC so maybe he could be anywhere.

Look at the Shankly. Loose football theme, but it looks amazing, cocktails and live singers on check in, various themed rooms etc! Looks so so fun, and very special!

BonnesVacances · 04/06/2019 17:22

The Shankly isn't available the weekend we're going. Which helps. Wink

Have you looked at 30 James Street?
It is in the old White Star Line headquarters building, close to the river for ferry rides, The Tate, the various museums along the river front. It's more centrally situated than Mal Maison.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/06/2019 20:19

The Malmaison is very nice, although I wouldn't say it has 'theatre' - it's one of the ugliest buildings in the city, but staff are nice, the bar is pleasant and the rooms are good - great showers!

The Titanic is quite a walk from town.

I really fancy 30 Saint James Street for next time we go.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/06/2019 20:20

Sorry - no idea why I wrote Saint in that!

Thank you Lala for the link to the Pullman Hotel. I think I'm going to book that one as DH likes views and will appreciate the big windows. And I fancy the breakfast. GrinBlush

30 James Street is booked that weekend too.

So what was it like have you been?
The Titanic is a long way from the centre, even on a good day the wind is bitter cold and its next door to Europes biggest brick built building, oh its derelict too!
Hope this helps

I assume you have seen this? The building next door is Sanley dock or the Tobacco warehouse
