Snowdon with toddler

Just wondering if anyone can advise on something I can do with DD (21 months), DS (newborn) and grandparents whilst DH, DF and others walk up Snowdon?

Thanks!

There’s a lovely pottery painting cafe in Llanberis but it fills up quick so go early.

You can get beans on toast, english breakfasts and enourmous cups lf tea at Pete’s Big Eats just down the road from there, its spacious and popular rough and ready cheap very child suitable.

Caernarfon is not far, and is a really pretty town with lovely cafes and a nice park. I take it you have a car? My kids love Pili Palas, a ten/fifteen minute drive from Llanberis- it's a butterfly sanctuary, has loads of cool animals and a soft play area. If the weather is nice, National Trust properties Castell Penrhyn or Plas Newydd are lovely.
Also, good local tip for a cafe is Caban in Brynrefail- it's a bit of a hidden gem, lovely food and outside space for the kids.

There's a slate mine museum with park and cafe in Llanberis, with a lake and space to run around. I think it's free as well.

Thanks everyone, great things to look at there. Have been to the butterfly sanctuary as a child and forgotten all about it!!

Book the train to go up Snowden as well? Take really warm clothes for the top as it is so often shrouded in cloud.
Or Llanberis lake railway (steam trains)

randomsabreuse · 18/05/2019 13:33

Train up and meet walkers at the top... £££ though.

AllTheProsecco · 18/05/2019 18:55

Train is already fully booked as that was the original plan. You only get 30 mins at the top though and would be tricky to coordinate with walkers anyway!

Greenwood forest park

Greenwood Adventure Park

Caernarfon castle - there is a nice playground nearby too

Playground in Llanberris next to slate museum

There used to be a soft play place in an old church in Caernarfon too, but it’s about 7 years since we last went.

Electric Mountain at Llanberris. Not particularly child-friendly, but toddler will get to wear a hard hat and ride a bus (delighted ours!). Tour is fascinating, especially if you're lucky enough to see the turbines activated.

National Slate Museum at Llanberis also excellent. Spaces for toddler to run around, but also a lot of hand-holding will be needed at times, as it's not all safe for them.

Amble through the woodland on the museum side of the valley, and catch the little steam train back (or vice-versa) and have tea at the station cafe.

mundaneflounder · 24/05/2019 21:42

The website says kids under 4 can't go to the electric mountain, so be wary of that. We considered it but ours were too young according the website.

If they are walking and you have all day and a car, go to Betws Y Coed. Nice shops and nice river to walk by. Some waterfalls too which are lovely. But best of all, the train station has minature trains etc. Great fun for a few hours.

OR go to the coast. A bit further away but it's beautiful and the beaches are nice. try Criccieth or Harlech. Both have nice castles.

Canaerfon is also lovely, the castle there is particularly good.

JellySlice · 24/05/2019 22:23

Oh, maybe it's changed since ours were very little.

BikeRunSki · 24/05/2019 23:59

The Conway Falls Cafe has a lovely walk attached. A small fee (£1 I think) and next to a river. Great cafe, had a toddler friendly corner last time I went (7 years ago though!) , just outside Betws y Coed.

Or Portmerion?
