In the rain would be truly crap but if dry good idea.

emkana · 17/07/2007 22:30

How old are your children again?

I went with my dd's when they were four and two and they had a fantastic time. I know it's not to everyone's taste, but for my dd's it was great (if expensive).

Don't expect to see the sea though.

SoMuchToBits · 17/07/2007 22:32

How far are you travelling? Because if not very far, then it may be quite fun, depending on the weather, but if you are travelling a long way, then it pees down with rain all day, and you have a long journey home on the train in wet clothes then no.

I haven't actually been to Weston for over 20 years, so don't know what it has in terms of entertainment these days.

harpsichordcuddler · 17/07/2007 22:35

they are four and two (ish)
it would be approx one and a half hours on the train
I am looking for somewhere fun to go on the train. am sick of driving.
?BAth
?Gloucester
?Worcester
??SWindon??

Well if you are prepared to go to Bath, why not try Bristol? We have @Bristol which is really good - all indoors, the Zoo - which I haven't been to yet but been told that a lot of it is covered so you are ok if it rains...

emkana · 17/07/2007 22:42

I would say Bristol if rainy

WEston if good weather

or Gloucester if you'd like to meet me

harpsichordcuddler · 17/07/2007 22:43

BRistol might be marvellous and direct route, lots of trains etc.
I would love to meet you Emkana! ha, too late to change your mind now....

I'm in Bristol, but given the Macdonalds thread and you thinking I'm a raging snob....

Am not a snob in RL btw...

heifer · 17/07/2007 22:46

I went to Weston super mud during half term with my DD 3.6 and friend and her children 10 and 7 and we had a great time

It rain all day long, but we just put our coats on and went on the beach for an hour or so, had a donkey ride then changed clothes.

Then went to pier and spends loads of money on crappie machines ( but had great fun).

lunch

and then to the aquarium and finally it was sunny so went back onto the beach around 5.00pm and even into the sea!

then came home after a very enjoyable day...

Do not bother coming to Swindon - and not sure Gloucester has much to offer small children..

emkana · 17/07/2007 22:47

I would love to meet you too!

Unfortunately I will be out of the country for the next four weeks, but after that - just name the date!

CrookshanksinJimmyChoos · 17/07/2007 22:48

Oooh - where are you off to?

emkana · 17/07/2007 22:48

Def. not Swindon
Bath probably more for older children/teenagers

Not much going on in Gloucester I'm afraid.

harpsichordcuddler · 17/07/2007 22:49

harpsichordcuddler · 17/07/2007 22:55

I lived in the Old Town for a bit, then down by Coate Water. no, I didn't go to school there, I was working at Galileo at Windmill Hill.

OP posts:
harpsichordcuddler · 17/07/2007 22:56

oh and apparently the flat I lived in was next door to where Diana Dors used to live

OP posts:
heifer · 17/07/2007 22:58

OK, I don't live far from OT.

Also knew a couple of people that worked at Galileo before it shut up shop..

WestCountryLass · 18/07/2007 20:19

Bristol!

You can get an open bus tour and get off at various places.

Rachmumoftwo · 18/07/2007 20:37

We live near WSM and love it. But Bristol is also fab and has more to offer if the weather is bad, including the free museum at the top of Park St, which is very child friendly! Sunny- WSM. Raining- Bristol.
