Stunning walk with pub room/food, coastal?

Can anyone recommend a good coastal walk with a beautiful pub/restaurant en route? DH has requested this as his birthday treat but I want to arrange the details as a surprise. Walk can be long, a day or two.

Looking for somewhere that serves great seafood, with nice rooms attached if possible!

Padstowe

Stay at The Townhouse and eat at no6 by Paul Ainsworth. We went this Jan and it was absolutely fantastic.

So.... an update!

I've booked a hotel in Scotland, thought we could fly up early and hire a car. I think I'll take DH to the new V&A in Dundee, then drive to Aviemore (or a nearby picturesque spot for a pub with room)? Then onwards in the morning to the Torridon in Wester Ross for two nights. Whiskey distilleries, oysters, DH will be in heaven. And we get mountains!

Thoughts? And suggestions for a good stopping point in the Cairngorms?

Don't want to discourage you but your plans might fall flat if the weather is pish and roads get closed. Could you do something with less driving. What about the sleeper to fort William and then a trip mallaig or stay near fw?

.

That is a lot of driving in Scotland in January. Torridon is beautiful but if you intend to walk up those mountains at that time of year make sure you have the right gear and you know what you are doing. How long do you have and where would you fly in to?

goldpendant · 24/05/2019 23:11

Yeah I'd not given too much thought to the weather and I'm trying to stay optimistic....

LOVE the idea of the sleeper (did some overnight trains on honeymoon, quite romantic).... tell me more. Is FW as dramatic as Torridon?

Plan is this;

Fly London to Dundee early, see V&A, jump in car to Aviemore (2.5hrs).

Stay night near Aviemore, leave earl ish the next morning to Torridon (2 hrs).

2 nights and 2.5 full days Torridon. No mountain walking, just low walks. Sea kayaking possible in winter if weather ok.

Shouldn't I be optimistic 😳

My only experience of Scotland is Arran.... it was torrential!

If you have a lovely husband it will be wonderful.

chemenger · 24/05/2019 23:23

Sea kayaking in northern Scotland in January? You’re made of stern stuff.

goldpendant · 24/05/2019 23:31

@chemenger I guess we are....

DH has been almost everywhere and is astonishingly well travelled. The highlands he hasn't done, so I'd get extra brownie points for that.

@OhioOhioOhio He certainly is!

Oh, and it's early Feb.... not that I suppose it makes much difference? The hotels all seem to close in January- can't imagine why Confused

From Torridon you could drive around to applecross, have a walk and eat at the apple cross Inn, excellent award winning seafood.

goldpendant · 04/06/2019 11:56

Thanks @Urbanvoltaire good to hear that Apple Cross Inn is still good - sounds perfect for a walk and dinner!

Very excited to read about the new/ish highway that we'll get to drive - apparently Applecross to Torridon is one of the most stunning stretches.

@goldpendant yes they won a pub and bar award recently - I follow them on fb.

The Torridon inn is lovely as well. I had a lovely holiday there a few years ago.

Have a blast, am v jealous!
