Where to stay in North Norfolk?

We're planning a week in Norfolk in August, I've been looking at places to rent but not entirely sure where to base ourselves. Is Holt a good choice?

Want to do a mix of beaches, pretty towns and historical houses. DH will no doubt want to cycle.

Holt is good, Sherringham too.

Ricekrispie22 · 23/04/2019 17:37

Holt is in a good position for Sheringham, Holkham Hall, Wells, Blickling Hall, Blakeney and Burnham Market.

We’ve jus5been to Hunstanton and Old Hunstanton. The beach there is lovely, and very long.

Holkam beach is my favourite place on the world,it's stunning.

I came on to recommend Cranmer country cottages www.norfolk-luxury-cottages.co.uk/cottages/ but they are all booked up in August. It’s the PERFECT location for beaches, days out, bike riding. Lots of air bnb places around there. Have fun!

We love Overstand and Blakeney :)

wellspankmyarse · 25/04/2019 16:51

holt is right in the middle of norfolk, so be good as a base.

Holt is lovely, Burnham Market. They call it Chelsea on sea for a reason. Cromer is at your Skegness end of the spectrum

NancyJoan · 26/04/2019 12:41

Thanks so much, all. Loads of ideas here!

Wroxham is a lovely little place, you have cromer & sea palling beach near by too!

Barbarafromblackpool · 26/04/2019 12:49

Agree with Holt

keepingbees · 26/04/2019 12:58

Cromer is nothing like Skegness Hmm
Any of the places mentioned are fine OP. Wells next the sea is good for crab fishing too and Blakeney does seal seeing boat rides.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 26/04/2019 13:02

Cromer is NOTHING like Skegness!

wellspankmyarse · 26/04/2019 13:25

seals maybe on the beach (low tide) horsey .

bloodywhitecat · 26/04/2019 13:38

Just throwing Happisburgh and Brancaster into the mix. My children spent many a happy day on Brancaster beach, they used to love to walk up to the creek where the seals would play. Happisburgh has an iconic red and white lighthouse and some very cool fossilized footprints in the sand.

wellspankmyarse · 26/04/2019 13:58

titchwell rspb does great bacon baps!

AlexaAmbidextra · 29/04/2019 00:34

Cromer is lovely! Burnham Market on the other hand is full of Boden/Joules wearing mummies, loud, braying daddies and irritating children called Benedict and Jemima. Avoid the Hoste at all costs. It’s awash with them.

Reasonstobeearful · 29/04/2019 00:40

Any of these are lovely, including Cromer which is nothing like Skegness and has a beautiful old church that you can go and listen to organ recitals in which is a perfect activity for a summer evening after a day spent crabbing.

Reasonstobeearful · 29/04/2019 00:42

Wherever you stay, go and see the seals on a trip from blakeney and take a wee ride on the Holt steam train.

bettytaghetti · 29/04/2019 00:51

Have a look at www.barshambarns.co.uk. They're just to the south of Burnham Market, near Walsingham, which you can walk to fairly easily. Also close to Holkham and the fabulous beaches along that part of the coast. My DH is also into cycling and there are lots of quieter routes to take with few cars.
Be warned though; we enjoyed our stay so much we ended up buying a holiday house up there!Grin
