We are spending a week in Wells next the Sea this summer with dc who are 9 and 6. We have never been before and were wondering what we should get up to and if there are any good kid friendly restaurants? It would be great to know what the wet weather options are, although I am naively optimistic that we will have a repeat of last summer!

Hi, I was visiting Wells yesterday and we went to a boat which is moored in the harbour which sells both sweet and savoury pancakes. It's quite Bohemian, but the pancakes were very nice! I noticed a couple of pubs and fish and chip restaurants along the front, so I'm sure it won't be too difficult to find somewhere to eat.

Thank you Sherlock!

Hire a beach hut for the day! They're so pretty and was just really good fun having our own little base on the beach to get changed in, sit in and eat toast, and mainly just feel smug in as people walk past on the sand! Think it was about £20 for the day when we did it a few years ago. If it rains a bit, you can take games, have cups of tea etc in there and nip back to the shops for a chippie tea. We did it in a May half term I think and weather was less than ideal but having a beach hut means you can just nip inside during a shower and make the most of any good weather.

Nearby, I also like going seal-spotting at Blakeney and to the lovely deli at Cley.

If it's rainy, not sure what there is in Wells but if you've a car I'd head to Norwich. Lot to do in the castle museum and just pootling about the streets.

Love Wells.

Definitely rent a beach hut, that’s one of our favourite things to do.

Wet weather wise, Hunstanton is nearby with arcades and sea life centre. Decent swimming pool in Sheringham. Holkham Hall has enough going on inside to be a wet weather destination, and obviously lovely in the warm weather too. Lovely pottery painting place in Holt which is a lovely village generally. Bewilderwood is lovely, definitely worth the visit.

There is the Wells and Walsingham railway

Abbey [[http://www.walsinghamabbey.com/Home.html]] and Walsingham in general.

Crabbing is fun off the Quay and Wells has lots of art galleries to look round.

If you can make it along to Hunstanton, West Runton or Happisburgh then looking for fossils on the beach is a fun thing to do. West Runton has lots of rock pools, so is lovely for finding starfish/crabs etc.

the boat a previous poster was on about is "the albatross". also has cabins and is a b and b! cheapest cabin we had (me and ds) was £45? last summer. I was up before 5 am and the sunrise was amazing....

brancaster beach is lovely, hunstanton (oasis swimming pool, rollerskating etc), bewilderwood, beans boat trips from morston quay to see seals at blakeney point.
