Am going up get SiL a voucher for a hotel in the Lake District for her and her girlfriend - ant recommendations? They're both foodies. Like walking and reading / relaxing.

Okay, just clicked on the gilpin link above! Not the gilpin bridge pub on A590 I was thinking about 😂🙈

ScafellPoke · 30/03/2019 21:59

Hare and hound in lythe is nice too

Armathwaite Hall looking out over Bassenthwaite is a lovely hotel with a spa and good food. Second Lyzzick Hall too. Both hotels have cracking views and are in the North Lakes so a tad less touristy.

Armathwaite Hall on Bassenthwaite
Lakeside Hotel on Windermere
Hillthwaite Hotel just above Windermere
L'enclume restaurant in Cartmel
Drunken (?) Duck pub in Ambleside

Inn on the Lake at Glenridding Ullswater. Great for walking and the food is gorgeous.

Missmarplesknitting · 30/03/2019 22:14

Drunken duck! That was it.dirty duck is in Stratford 😂

Depends if you want proper posh.
I love the wild boar because the food is to die for. The bar is great, whisky stocks is top notch. Rooms are lovely....but it doesn't feel snooty. It's very relaxed.

If you want real luxury go to Storrs Hall on Lake Windermere.

I know it’s a holiday rental as opposed to a hotel but we stayed in The Spinney, Ambleside through Lake Lovers recently and could happily recommend it. It is spacious yet cosy at the same time and it’s the first time we have come away more relaxed than we went. Usually the stress of going away with family for a few days is hard but this place had something about it whereby it was hard not to relax. Perhaps it was the waterfall directly outside or Ambleside being nearby with all the walks and the lake itself? I don’t know but I would definitely recommend it. It’s a large property with 4 bedrooms (2 king size and 2 twins) and 3 bathrooms (2 bath and 1 shower) as well as a separate dining room, lounge, kitchen, a reading nook/mezzanine level and 2 balcony’s. It may not be exactly what you were thinking of but definitely worth considering if you wanted something special.

This is a link to the Lake Lovers website and hopefully to the property itself but if not search for ‘The Spinney’ and trust me when I say that the photos don’t do it justice as it’s a hidden tardis inside! www.lakelovers.co.uk/property/the-spinney/

A bit late, but just in case you are still looking, Forest Side in Grasmere, luxury and a real foodie hotel. The chef I believe came from L'Enclume in Cartmel.

Was taken to lunch there by friends and it was lovely.
