Going on a girls weekend to York at the start of May. We're staying in the centre and want to stay round here really but can any locals recommend any eateries or old pubs to visit? Thank you Smile

Try The Golden Fleece. It's been there since 1503 and has no foundations so the floors and corridors are all wonky!

Great pub, supposedly haunted and they often have live music on too.

You have to visit The House of Trembling madness

Coffee, cake or light lunch - Filmore and Union in Low Petergate

More traditional lunch - Bettys in St Helens Square

Fantastic Thai - attracts lots of locals and we try hard to keep it secret from the tourists - Khao San on Walmgate khaosanroadyork.co.uk

Great Cinema experience - Everyman on Blossom Street

Generally you will find masses of restaurants / pubs in the centre, but they are playing to the tourists and there are usually much better options available in the streets away from the certre.

Ate O Clock is quirky. All of the clocks are set to 8 o’clock and there are film sets in the loos. It uses fresh, local produce with food cooked to order. The service is fantastic and the menu is imaginative.
Another quirky place is Evil Eye Lounge, which has a great bar with a very extensive choice of drinks. It serve mostly Asian street food always cooked to very high standards.
Brew and Brownie serves brunch and lunch. Often there are people queuing to get a table but it’s most definitely worth it.
Talking of queueing, afternoon tea at Betty’s is very popular and for a good reason! If you can’t get in for afternoon tea, you must check out their shop next door.
Guy Fawkes was born at the very spot of the (now called) Guy Fawkes Inn which is in the shadow of the Minster. The interior is beautiful and the food is presented beautifully too. The portions are generous.
