Hi lovely people.

My partner and I are going away for the weekend. Anyone got any recommendations of what to visit, where to go, places to eat? This is the first time I've properly been away in the UK so want to make the most of it!

The Arden or the Welcombe hotels are both lovely. Arden us central, Welcombe on outskirt but has spa etc.

You have to do the Shakespeare stuff, it's kinda the rules but there is a butterfly farm right in the town centre which is nice.

Food wise I love FourTeas which is a WW2 theme cafe near the RSC, or Box Brownie which is right up by the Shakespeare birthplace.

There's quite a few good restaurants. Salt is excellent. The Dirty Duck up by the RSC is a nice pub, full of actors etc!

Do the tour of Shakespeare house and there is a lovely hotel opposite the globe. Visited museums and went in the river by boat in Stratford Upon Avon and a lovely Italian restaurant in the shopping area near a jewellery shop. Cannot remember name of Italian but they have a branch near Trafalgar Square Smile

The Christmas Shop👍🏼

Wendywoo1000 · 21/02/2019 22:11

THe bear does great food and you can sit by the river with a pint watching the world go by.

VanillaSugarr · 21/02/2019 22:15

Definitely the Christmas shop!’ I’ve stayed in two central hotels and a central B&B - they’ve all been fine. See if you fancy anything at the RSC, look into going on a barge cruise and definitely do the Shakespeare houses. There is a bus tour which will take you to Mary Arden’s house as this is a bit out of town. Will you take your own car? This might affect your choice of hotel. I love the Carluccio’s there, for some reason - and there are some good pubs.

Have fun!

The lamb restaurant on sheep street is amazing every time we go to the theatre (which is often) we eat there.

Lwmommy · 21/02/2019 22:18

Only about 20 min drive from warwick castle, how about a medieval banquet evening

campion · 21/02/2019 22:37

The Vintner at the top of Sheep Street is excellent for eating. It calls itself a wine bar but it's much more and the food and atmosphere are always really good.

A walk by the river or boat trip, and a wander round the theatre is always nice. Be aware that if the weather's good it gets very busy.
There's a good market on Fridays and Saturdays plus a varied selection of shops.
It's all pretty compact so you can see/do quite a lot.

I'd start by going somewhere else.
It's abiding little town that has nothing going for it except a dead writer. Envy

gauntletthrown · 21/02/2019 22:49

Boring

Triglesoffy · 22/02/2019 06:52

Yes you are gauntlet Hmm

ZenNudist · 22/02/2019 07:03

I was rather going to agree with gauntlet. But anywhere for a child for the weekend sounds good to me. It's in quite a money area so plenty of good restaurants and gastro pubs to go to. Try getting out into the surrounding countryside because the mother's gastro pubs around there are excellent. Also loving the Spa idea. Or getting a hotel with the pool and then you can relax and swim.

Stratford is very notable for its Theatre and if you could get tickets in advance that will be worth doing as a life type experience.

ZenNudist · 22/02/2019 07:03

Child-free!!

ZenNudist · 22/02/2019 07:04

I like the crabmill at Henley upon Arden

SorrelForbes · 22/02/2019 07:10

The Thai restaurant, Sabai Sabai is great.

Missmarplesknitting · 22/02/2019 11:30

If you have a car, Baroset BArm is excellent for food too.

It's a gorgeous area, I live here. Loads to do. Lots of national trust places, and if you like film the playhouse cinema does proper grown up film watching; take a bottle of wine in and you can buy I've olives etc to snack on.
