Where to go near Glasgow??? Help

Hi, we are going to a wedding in Glasgow in August. We will have a couple of nights there, but would like to stay somewhere near Glasgow for a couple of nights beforehand. We have three children age 8,5 and 1. I don't know Scotland at all, but would love somewhere rural not more than an hour drive from Glasgow centre. Any advise would be very welcome. Thank you.

Just in case anyone is interested, I ended up booking an air bnb in a village just outside Edinburgh. Country feel and green but close to the city, which I am excited to visit for the first time! Thanks for your ideas.

If you’re near Edinburgh in August you should definitely take the kids to the festival. Mine absolutely loved it! The kids stand up show was a huge hit with ours but also just wandering around seeing street performers is lots of fun. It’s busy though. I’d definitely recommend a sling rather than a pushchair if you’re planning to try to get anywhere.

Oh yes you have to go to the festival since you are there in August, it's brilliant!
