I'm looking for alternatives to Cornwall which whilst absolutely fabulous, is just such a long trek from London. Does anyone have much to say about Camber Sands? Is it unusually cold or windy or some other weather issue? What about the people who holiday there. Are they a bit common roudy or do they tend to be naice?Blush

I’m not ashamed of wanting a holifaybthat isn’t Pontins!

I love camber. There are some really really fabulous houses to rent around there. (Camber cottages do some) and stunning scenery and food. You can stay next to pontins and not interact with it!

My top summer haunts are
The Gallivant
The farm shop at the main road where you turn to Camber
The fish shop in the bridgenon the way into Rye
The fish’s and chip shop in Rye by the windmill
The original Victorian penny arcade above the tourist info in Rye.

The antique shops all over Rye (kids get a couple of £ each and we see who gets the best vintage toy )

The castle in Rye
The Ypres Castle pub with garden and views - incredible - in Rye
Bodiam Castle (30 min drove)
Hastings for fish and chips, art gallery, and.... The Source skate & BMX park (biggest indoor one In Europe ), and more junk shops.

I am screaming that. If you ignore me and PP you will look back and really, really wish you hadn’t.

Camber Sands is great

Don’t do what I did in my younger days and swim out to the nearest buoy. I’m a good swimmer (as in 75 lengths in a session) - took me 10 minutes to swim out and 45 minutes of ferocious swimming against the tide to get back. I thought I would drown and literally had to crawl up the beach, I was so exhausted. Very dangerous.
