Ramsgate or Broadstairs for a day trip from London this Sunday?

Hi, my friend has called and said she wants to get out of the Smoke for the day. The weather is supposed to be nice on Sunday and she said she quite fancies going for a walk along the sea/beach. Could you tell me which is nicer for an adult day out, Ramsgate or Broadstairs? Last time I was in Ramsgate was 25 years ago as a kid and I have no idea what it is like now. I knw Broadstairs has a dickens connection but if anyone could give advice that would be great! Thanks!

I’d go for Broadstairs personally. It’s lovely there!

Thanks Dogmatix, all I know is that Ramsgate is supposed to be a bit shabby. I don't know much about either place to be honest so any feedback is greatly appreciated. I tend to go to Norfolk/Suffolk/Hampshire for day trips :) Are there nice shops there, cultural things to do?

Broadstairs or potentially even Margate. Esp if you are going by train (Ramsgate station is a fair way from the beach whilst Broadstairs is a 10 min walk from the beach and Margate station is on the beach).

Broadstairs is pretty than Margate but a lot will be closed on a Sunday out of season whilst Margate has the turner and the old town to explore (but has some umm not so nice bits). You could potentially do both?

Ramsgate is probably better in the summer when you can go on the beach (doesn't get as maniac as the other 2). The harbour there is nice and I love the walk from Ramsgate to Broadstairs but Ramsgate town centre doesn't have many attractions esp on a Sunday.

Also in Margate check out the sundeck and Dreamland (but check first as they may have closed for the season)

Would definitely recommend Margate/Broadstairs! Folkestone is lovely too- sandy beached a great array of independent shops/cafes along the seafront but the harbour arm is the best! Live music, an old bus converted into a greek restaurant, and a great view, there are lots of nice little places down here you can't really go wrong.

Oh if Margate is an option then definitely! The Turner gallery is great as is Dreamland and the beach is so nice.

Oh yes Folkestone is nice, as well as ella's suggestions try the lower leas country park (you can walk to sandgate and back). There is a nice coffee shop in Folkestone called steep street coffee.

Thank you so much to everyone for their ides and sharing, I really appreciate it as I don't know Thanet and around there very well at all. Folkestone and Broadstairs definitely look like possibilities and I am wondering about Deal and Walmer too? Sadly, I came down with a heavy cold and so currently in bed dying the death of a thousand sniffles but looking forward to when I can make it to these places :). Thank you so much ellastellabella Dogmatix34 LittleBelina Flowers

Deal is close to my home and is a lovely little town, less touristy but with lots of little independent places to eat and great walks along the seafront, a pier and two EH castles!

That sounds lovely!
