Theme parks and over capacity!!!!

Ok this really gets my goat. On a recent visit to Legoland with my 2 little ones, we were presented with queues for rides in excess of 60 minutes. This mentality seems to be the norm but something has to be done about it! There were even people arguing in the fast track queue waiting for about 20 mins as that queue was incredibly long too for fast access!

So this is how it works. Theme parks are massively over populated. But to help you out for a theme parks inability to manage its attendance numbers properly, they charge you even more to get on a ride in a reasonable amount of time. Surely this is extortion!

Theme parks should have a maximum capacity and no more, so that Queues never exceed around 30 minutes. The cost to attend a theme park and to get on around 5 rides a day with 2 screaming impatient kids who are going stir crazy in queues all day does not cut it with me anymore!

Anyone know how to go about getting ALL theme parks to change their attendance rules? Petition? Complaints? The press?

Anyone with me on this or am I just ranting too much? Grrrrrr.

So don't go. Vote with your feet.

This is not the sort of thing you need to petition about.

AlmaGeddon · 24/09/2018 08:19

But you only know there's a problem if you go!

mummymeister · 24/09/2018 12:16

sorry but you are just ranting! they aren't a public service they are a business. if they sell you a ticket for x amount then how many rides you do or don't get to go on is completely and utterly irrelevant to them because they still have your money. you need to stump up for fast passes if its a real issue for you to cut down on the queues. Who are you going to petition? The government have no control over private businesses in this way and neither should they.

Sadly long wait times are often caused by poor theme park operations rather than too many people in the park. If you want to see how to run a theme park slickly and efficiently visit Europa Park in Germany. Even in high season they get through the queues far faster than any British park I've visited. And I have to agree that the queues at Legoland are absolutely ridiculous, to the point I don't bother visiting any more.

WrongKindOfFace · 24/09/2018 12:26

I’m sure queues didn’t used to be so huge. I don’t remember ever seeing queues of three hours when I was a child?

itswinetime · 24/09/2018 12:30

Legoland dose have a maximum capacity they recently (end of the holiday) put on their website they were full told people not to travel and didn't let anyone who came in.

So these things are in place I'm guessing down to safety as oppose to queues. as PP said queues are more often than not poor operating rides not running at capacity slow loading ect nothing will change while people still pay to go.

SparklyMagpie · 24/09/2018 12:35

@Boyskeepswinging Europa park nail it !

I remember going years ago and getting on I think Silver Star? And got on 3 times and never waited long than 10 minutes where as Alton towers, was waiting over 90 minutes for one go on Galactica

PiperPublickOccurrences · 24/09/2018 12:37

I've been to a few theme parks and Legoland is by far the worst. Run down, shabby and with disinterested teenage staff who don't give a shit.

Boyskeepswinging · 24/09/2018 12:39

@Sparkly I agree ops on Galactica are ridiculous now with those bloody VR headsets.

hendricksy · 24/09/2018 13:00

It's just legalism , it is always like that . They let car too many people in!!

I was going to start this thread!

We went to legoland on Saturday (pissed it down which didn’t help), we grudgingly paid an extra £50 for our two ds’s to have a pass so they could actually go on a couple of rides without queuing for hours, I couldn’t believe that some qbots were £90 EACH.

It’s an absolute disgrace to treat customers like this, we pay to visit then have to pay again to ensure the kids actually have some sodding fun.

We found a cafe to get out of the rain, paid £15 for a warm (WARM) sprite, a tiny blob of ice cream and some raw doughnuts.

I got the rage and got up to complain that they were raw, sprite warm, cafe filthy and not enough seats - then realised the 18 year old behind the counter wouldn’t give a shit and would do nothing about it.

I’m so, so sick of taking my kids to places then being ripped off and disappointed.

I really wish these places would raise their game and start providing their customers with a fun experience.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 24/09/2018 14:54

If your kids are little I recommend Thomasand/Drayton Manor. I've never known it to be overcrowded, and from 3pm onwards you can get straight on anything, really.

The food sucks though, so bring a picnic and stick it in one of the lockers so you don't have to haul it around.

Bestseller · 24/09/2018 15:00

I think it's ridiculous to spend an hours queuing for a ride that lasts a few minutes too, but which is why I don't go.

Obviously the parks don't need my business as there are plenty of people who are prepared to pay £££ for the experience. If there weren't they'd have to change things.
