My husband is always being mistaken for being arabic though maybe a thread in his family history, he gets taken as a local in turkey and places like that, he wasn't there though when we went travelling with my sister and laila then 2. Lovely people and really friendly though thats getting totally off the topic of this thread.

NikkiBFG · 05/06/2007 21:23

It is isn't it!! Had to ask though!

Back to hotels now.....

PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt · 05/06/2007 21:27

Oh wordgirl - how long is the stroll in to town??

I've just chatted to the bath spa and it seems MOST promising too!

Probably about 15 mins I guess but it's all through the park and past the Royal Crescent - it is uphill on the way back though

PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt · 05/06/2007 21:33

how uphill?? will it kill us with the buggy?? Also - does that walk take you straight in to town for lunches /coffees etc ?

Yes straight into town and it's not really that uphill - just feels that way after a hard day's shopping. There's also the biggest playground I have ever seen in the park which could be useful if you have DC with you.
We really need a Bath expert to come along now. I'm just a northerner with a bit of a thing for the West Country!

PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt · 05/06/2007 21:39

I've just spoken to them and they're full, so bath spa here we come!!!

The bath spa is not in the very centre of Bath either - about a 10 min walk to the hotel. V nice though. Have you looked at the Francis, or the Harrington? IIRC, both are central.

PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt · 05/06/2007 22:56

no I hadn't - the harrington looks like a really good option! Is the spa more flish flash?

The Queensbury,we stayed for 10th anniversary,no spa but lovelly restaurent and atmos and v central

brimfull · 05/06/2007 23:08

I stayed at the spa .....when it was the nurse's home years ago!

ahundredtimes · 05/06/2007 23:10

The Queensbury is top tip from floaty, central and gorgeous and swish. Bit further out The Residence and The Priory also nice, the last one has a garden for dc is they're with you and near the park, which might be useful. Harrington okay, but The Queensbury better and jollier. Go there.

PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt · 05/06/2007 23:18

Ok - I am now sold on the queensbury depsite speaking to a slightly comical man who when questioned about parking said ' if there are no parking spaces available mam, we will just drive your car away'.....

Most curious

The Royal Crescent was disappointing. We had a really small room the first time we stayed there, on top floor (servants attic!), and arrived too late for dinner so we ordered room service but had to eat sitting on the bed as there was only one small table. Then we had to go back for a wedding so we took a suite on the 2nd or 1st floor. It was OK space-wise but the service wasn't brilliant, the spa was good and the restaurant had room for improvement. This was a few years ago mind you.

I've also heard that the Hilton is to be avoided!

ahundredtimes · 05/06/2007 23:25

We all KNOW that the Duchesses place at home is bigger than the Royal Crescent and she has bigger tables too. Hence disappointment.
Think might be over-priced though. Ring The Queensbury.

ahundredtimes · 05/06/2007 23:26

Oh you did, sorry, missed that.

lailasmum · 06/06/2007 07:28

The bath spa isn't that far out. Really depends upon what you call far. My hubbie walks from there into town on a regular basis and its quite a nice walk as far as I remember.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 06/06/2007 20:37

Quite right ahundred, the size of my tables is legendary in these parts

WideWebWitch · 06/06/2007 20:43

My friend always goes to The Queensberry for her anniversaries and loves it. Sobernow had her wedding night in The Royal Crescent iirc, you need her to come along, I think it's got a good reputation. I've stayed in The Hilton,(after stropping off on my sister, who lives in Bath, and being too late to get the train back to Bristol, where I lived at the time!) and no, not nice. I found a nice place online recently in Bath, let me see if I saved it, hang on.

WideWebWitch · 06/06/2007 20:48

Yay! I found it, Milsoms I haven't been but like their site.
