Cromer/Sheringham

Can anyone give some ideas on things to do in the Cromer/Sheringham area. A four year old with a short attention span and limited mobility so beach will be great for an hour tops each day, and rock pooling challenging. Also have an 8 month old who is happy either to crawl around or be in the sling. Four year old loves cafes. Loves parks as long as there are disabilities accessible areas. Most of all loves being out and about with family. Doesn't like zoos etc as the big open space and unfamiliar layout is overwhelming, but towns etc are fine. We find it hard to fill holidays! Any tips?

When are you going, does the place need to be wheel-chair accessible?

sTeam train, Splash, Felbrigg Hall & grounds, Sheringham Country Park, lots of good playgrounds. Amazona is not a big open spaces zoo, either, it's quite cozy, actually.

Thank you so much. Will look into all of those. Going next week. Doesn't need to be wheelchair accessible but any climbing is out. Or anything that involves balancing etc

Wells is really nice, nice town, great beach that you get a little train too. Crimer itself is a bit rubbish. The life boat museum is supposed to be good. Bewilderwood is great fun. Wroxham is nice on the broads.

Ok sorry didnt see that bit, not bewilderwood then.

There's loads to do in cromer. There's a small fun fair on the parade beside the pier. Also amusement arcade. There's an accessible cafe in town with full disable changing facilities if you need. There's a toy boat lake in north lodge park with a locally run cafe adjacent. Lifeboat museum beside the pier. Grabbing from the pier may be better than rock pooling as there are a lot of rocks at the moment. There is a lovely play park beside the town centre car park.

Make sure you check tide times as when we were there 2 weeks ago the low tide was 7am and 6pm and the first part of the beach can be rocky so no sand until low tide. Its better on the lifeboat museum side of the pier as more sand.

Felbrigg is nice for running around a d no idea about sheringham as we tend to stick to cromer as my parents live there.

Steam train that goes through holt is good too. Wroxham barns may be an idea but it looked expensive so we have never been.

As well as the big steam train at Sheringham and the little one that goes to the beach at Wells, there's a nice narrow gauge train from Wells to Walsingham. The latter is a quite historic place with a famous abbey and I remember a nice cafe there. One of the stations on the Sheringham steam train line has a model railway set up. We did a lot of trains on that holiday!

Blakeney has a nice but short and flat walk into marshland, and I believe you can get a boat to see seals there.

Wizard's Maze is a massive maize maze just a few miles from Cromer. Apart from the maze, there's lots of other things to do there too, like tractor rides and farm animals to hold and feed. There's also a cafe and shop.
Roar Dinosaur Adventure Park is about a half hour drive.www.roarrdinosauradventure.co.uk

The boats to see the seals go from Morston, the next village to Blakeney. Google Blakeney Point Seal Trips.

Blakeney is good for sitting in the quay crabbing. The local shop in Westgate sells crabbing buckets and bait.

There is a Steam Engine Museum at Thursford. It has traction engines and steam organs from the old dance halls. They play the organs in turn. There is s play area and a small stream.

On the coast road between Salthouse and Cley there is a conservation / birdwatching Centre. They have telescopes and webcams onto the marsh and you can sit at a big window in their cafe looking out on the marsh.

Thanks so much everyone. I've made a great list. I think trains and cafes will feature a lot!

I prefer Cromer over all the other towns, but MNers do mostly dislike it.
There's a lighthouse walk you can do from Cromer, involves going up and down hills, maybe too much hills for you, though.
There's a little steam train that runs Aylsham to Wroxham & back, Bure VAlley railway, can go on a boat ride in Wroxham, too.

Can anyone recommend nice eateries which are family friendly, in Cromer, the Runtons or Sheringham? Lots of cafes and restaurants but hard to know which are any good. Will take the recommendations already given upthreAd too, thank you.

For fish and chips, No.1 in Cromer is good and you get lovely sea views too. If you like seafood, try Rocky Bottoms just on the A149 outside East Runton.
