Belfast, hotels and things to do

Hi there,

I am spending a night and day in Belfast with my 7 year old.
Can anyone recommend things to do with a seven year old - but not the titanic stuff as we have a 7 hour ferry Journey afterward and I don’t think it will help 😆

Also seeking good but cheap family hotels which are central and with parking.

Thank you

What day of the week? If a Saturday or Sunday st George’s market worth a wander (near central station) it’s nearly all food on a Friday but Saturday and Sunday more mixed up. Ulster museum and botanic gardens (my 8 year old loves!). Open top bus trip. Victoria square for some shops and a cinema and food under one roof.

The zoo. W5. Premiere inns are always good and reasonably priced too.

Thank you :). It will be a Monday but we will be there on the Sunday evening too.

Botanical gardens and bus trip sound good too. Is Belfast a big city?

There's a new Hampton by Hilton which has family rooms and parking. Think it opened in June, certainly fairly recently. These hotels include breakfast in their prices, mainly continental but they have a six-item hot menu (can't remember all the details, but think egg, sausage, bacon, beans - the basics!).

Went to Belfast last year with my 12 year old. We stayed in an airbnb as I found the hotels were really expensive. The airbnb was actually on the same road as the zoo, although we didn't go. We hired a car and drive to the Giants Causeway, maybe an hour to 90 minutes drive from the centre.

This hotel sometimes has good deals:

There's on-street parking and the tour bus goes past the front door (or at least it used to). It's also easy walking distance to the botanic gardens and Ulster museum.
If you have a car you could drive out to the folk and transport museum at Cultra. My primary age kids recently enjoyed HMS Caroline and I think children go free in August. There's plenty to do for a day but I'd personally give the zoo a miss.

I just remembered, the museums tend to be closed on Mondays - check before you go 🙁

Thank you, we will be visiting the Giant’s causeway a couple of days before, can’t wait.
I have found amplace called the Gregory which looks nice, so probably going for that. :)
