Flying to jersey with DC and just a driving license!

Has anyone done this? We go in a couple of weeks (first time flying alone with the DC) and I'm having nightmares about being told we can't board.

My passport and dd1's has expired and dd2 has never had one. I've been told to take their birth certificates but also this isn't really needed.

I've now just realised my driving license expires at end of September (it's a medically restricted license). Will this be a problem? Flying in august.?

I even rang the airline to be reassured but it only slightly helped Shock.

I realise I'm being OTT anxious. And this is due to the whole thing being a big deal to me (it's taken me 5 years post separation to do this).

I guess I just want someone to say 'oh yes, I did that last week with x no of DC and it was fine....'

Eating out is quite pricey, Jersey has gone 'upmarket' in the last 10+ years.

Snack lunches - our cheap favourites:

  • Greve de Lecq (large café on right as you look out to sea) (great beach for spending the day at)
  • St Catherine's breakwater
  • Mid bay café, St Brelades (great beach but more worrying as larger)

Other nice places, not too expensive

  • La Frigate on waterfront St Helier
  • in the zoo
  • Watersplash, St Ouen's (also good for evening meal)
  • Big Verns, St Ouen's (also good for evening meal)
  • Pizza Express, St Brelades (find vouchers online)
  • Jambos Chinese, St Brelades

At St Helier there is a Pizza Hut near the cinema / pool complex and a Bella Italia in the centre of town too. I'm not too hot on food in St Helier as we only go there once per holiday.

The Jersey Heritage Trust which runs the big attractions is separate from the NT for Jersey. We've never been anywhere where we can use our NT cards.

Lucky you I love Jersey.
I flew out last year with two DC's and just my driving licence, and they have a different surname to me. No problems :-)

OMG, thank you Ihavent ! That's just what I needed to hear Grin.

The NT jersey website isn't great. Looks like they do events in the summer but none are free in the week we are going. It does look like my membership is fine to use over there but website doesn't allow me to look for places like the UK one.

Teentimestwo that's a fab list. Thank you! I think the DC will be under strict instructions to over eat at breakfast and we will try and skip lunch.

Very much excited now. Also notice the temperature over there is currently a good 7-10 degrees cooler at the moment. Sounds fab!

There's things like Costa and Pizza Express in St Helier too, if you need something familiar. I find prices on a par with UK holiday resorts, slightly pricier than a town or city because they are making as much as they can in 5 months of the year.

Take a look at the Visit Jersey website if you haven't already.

Who are you flying with, if you don't mind me asking?

user1471530109 · 24/07/2018 21:24

Drop flybe. I think!

The whole holiday is about 5x more than I expected ever spent on a week! Things have for a lot more expensive since the last time I went anywhere and wasn't staying with friends.

That's good to know, thanks. Dd1 is infuriating but I don't want a fuss on holiday. Dd2 will eat anything on a good day. Pizza express is both their favourite after McDonald's Blush

I've been told I have to check in at airport as we don't have passports. But I have paid and chosen our seats. So in theory we don't need to get there 3 hrs early do we? It's the journey that's stressing me out. Not the actual holiday as such.

The airport in jersey is pretty small so will hopefully be a stress free arrival for you!

If you go to pizza express, go to the one down st brelades bay - it's on the beach and lovely. (But noisy just like every pizza express seems to be like!)

If you go to the zoo, head towards the bat enclosure first rather than towards the reptile house. So don't go with the crowds - it's much more enjoyable and peaceful!

Also look up the amaizin maize, your kids would love it!

whatsit thank you Wine

I really appreciate everyone's tips! Keep 'em coming!

Is the bus the best way to get around generally? Do they run late into evening?

You've all helped a very daft middle aged dopey woman. Flowers

Yes to the buses, unless you hire a car. Bus website above, with timetables and maps. You can get hop-on hop-off passes for £8 a day (otherwise £2 per journey contactless payment), prices get cheaper for more days. Children are half price I think.

Hotels are expensive in August unfortunately. They're half the price in October! Same as anywhere really.

Jersey airport is easy to navigate, you can't get lost really, especially on exit.

Though you can try to board the wrong plane home when there are 2 flights to your destination leaving within 30mins and you aren't paying attention. (Stopped at the pre-boarding gate!) Blush
