Favourite things to do in the Lake District

Hello

We are off to the Lake District tomorrow. Our group has 4 children aged between 3 and 8 years old. I am wondering what your favourite things to do in the lakes are, or your favourite places to visit, that would be suitable for the children? We are staying in Windermere area but can travel. My dad will also be with us and he has mobility problems so anything that would be good for all of us would be a bonus, although he is quite fond of sitting in cafes whilst we go off exploring!
Many thanks in anticipation Smile

We are here until Friday. Thanks for all of these great ideas. We opted to walk up Loughrigg fell today so will probably give Catbells a miss as we found probably the steepest climb going to get to the summit and I don’t think the children will want to see another hill any time soon Grin. We are literally in fellfoot as soon as we step out of the garden, it’s a really great position so have been spending a bit of time there, going to paddle and have a rowing boat tomorrow I think. And the weather has been great 👍🏻

Gummer's How is a great walk for families and v close to Fellfoot. The treetop nets at Brockhole, take a picnic and enjoy the grounds and maybe a boat ride.

Ambleside is lovely for lunch/coffee and cake, and there's a nice kids' park near the central church.

Grange over Sands is very quaint with some great food shops, esp Higginsons for amazing meat and pies. A walk along the promenade is a lovely way to spend a couple of hours, there are small parks for kids along the way.

Cartmel is gorgeous, nice for a wander and pub lunch. Or try The Swan at Newby Bridge. There's a pencil museum but have never been to that! Also the Lakes Wild Animal Park is under new management and appears to still be a fun day out.
