Scotland, where to go

Looking for summer holiday 2019 ideas and considering Scotland, but have only been to Edinburgh. Recommendations would be brilliant for somewhere (general area or specific location / accommodation) that ideally has:

  • peaceful setting with stunning scenery
  • not too many midges in July / August (if that's even possible)
  • possibility of whale watching nearby
  • lots of lovely walks (mountains a bonus)
  • couple of things to do if/when it rains to suit pre-teen DC

Open to mainland or island ideas.

Thanks!

Grannies heilan hame in Embo.

Parkdean static caravan and not too far from Inverness where you could hire car etc

Beautiful place to go, lots of tourist including Culloden (incase an outlander fan!) And pre teen stuff on site too.

Oooooo if you're an outlander fan then you need to visit Culross (pronounced Cooris) as well. It's literally just up the road from me and they did filming there recently. It's the most beautiful tiny village. All old buildings and cobbled streets. I absolutely love it there. It's worth a visit even if you don't watch outlander actually. The pub is lovely for a bar lunch as well!
