For a dog friendly walking king of holiday

Not been to wales since i was a chile. Husband is Scottish and has never been.
We've been to most places in the UK but fancy a week in wales this year.
We'll be renting a holiday cottage but are unsure what area to go for.
Not overly fussed about a beach as we have spaniels, and they don't know what to do with themselves on a beach!
TIA

Cosy Cottage in Mumbles Gower. It looks lovely!

We love snowdonia!

clairethewitch70 · 02/06/2018 19:03

Brecon Beacons?

CelticPromise · 02/06/2018 19:05

Gower. Lots of dog friendly pubs and great walking, it's not all about the beach here.

Rozzzzzalmost35 · 02/06/2018 20:05

Gallt y Glynn in Llanberis - at the foot of snowdon and lots of walks and activities to do x

Temporaryanonymity · 02/06/2018 20:07

Llyn peninsula is gorgeous, so many beaches!

BestIsWest · 02/06/2018 20:10

Hay on Wye. Very dog friendly and loads of gorgeous walks in the Wye Valley and Black Mountains.

The Gower is also wonderful.

welshmist · 02/06/2018 20:10

Anglesey is beautiful.

brimfullofasha · 02/06/2018 20:12

Another vote for Pembrokeshire. You can walk the costal path and there are endless beaches.

MattLeBlancVest · 02/06/2018 20:30

Shell island.

Has to be Pembrokeshire, have a look here.

perfectpanda · 02/06/2018 20:38

Llyn peninsula. We go every Easter. Beautiful coast, hills, not too crowded.

AdaColeman · 02/06/2018 20:41

Another vote for Pembrokeshire, stunning coastal scenery.

SwedishEdith · 02/06/2018 20:55

Powys/Gwynedd border around Dolgellau is gorgeous.

Minniemountain · 02/06/2018 21:04

Snowdonia is stunning.

Dogs are banned from lots of beaches May-September, so not Pembrokeshire if you're planning on a summer holiday.

bakingdemon · 02/06/2018 21:10

Also Pembrokeshire. The Wales Coastal Path goes right round the whole coast so you'll be able to find good walks near the sea wherever you are. The England Coastal Path should be all done by 2020.

AdaColeman · 02/06/2018 21:18

Dogs are only completely banned from two Pembrokeshire beaches, Tenby North, and Whitesands St. Davids, some other beaches have partial banned areas. Pembrokeshire Council website has full details.

So if you find accommodation you like, you can check out the nearby beaches on the website to see what if any the restrictions are.

Cannockcanring · 02/06/2018 21:22

Probably easier to tell you the bits that aren't great, rather then which are good, as most of its pretty good :-). Which are you keen on out of....mountains, lakes, shops, historic stuff?

user1486076969 · 02/06/2018 21:29

Agree with AdaC, majority of Pembrokeshire beaches have a dog friendly section all year.

CMOTDibbler · 02/06/2018 21:36

So many great places - we go to a campsite near Builth Wells and from there we go to the Elan Valley, Brecons Beacons, and keep meaning to go to Hay. A glorious area

Hedwigsangryinch · 02/06/2018 21:55

I live in Wales, I highly recommend West Wales anywhere along the coast is lovely Tenby and Saundersfoot are really nice, busy in the summer though. Mumbles in the Gower is beautiful, we’re going ourselves in August and you can walk along the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path...all 186 miles of it! Check out www.visitwales.com for lots more inspiration :)
