Unspa break

People are always on about spa breaks. It doesn't appeal to me. DH has the odd day or night away and is all in favour of me getting a break but I have no idea what it is that I would do and where I'd go to do it.

I have pals to go for a drink or a meal with but it takes weeks to work out when we're all free for a meal! Never mind a night or two. So it might be a solo thing.

DM would love it if we had a weekend break but I'm not convinced I'd come back more relaxed.

Nearly had a horse riding break with a friend, which would have been good but it fell through for reasons.

Any suggestions?

I go for spa weekends with my friends but it tends to involve a bit of riding, kayaking, sea safari or hill walking and then we have a lovely boozy dinner with drinks and silly chat afterwards.

We follow it up with a day of lounging in outdoor pools/hot tubs and a massage if we're feeling expensive.

We tend to do it in Scotland- not sure where you are OP.

It can be hard to organise, but I find that organising a dinner is tough because it's not exciting enough that people will take time out of their usual schedule for it - whereas if we decide upon something interesting then everyone wants to get involved.

Stay in Edinburgh and book yourself in to see some of the shows during the fringe festival.
Or, if you enjoy cooking, try a cooking holiday. My DSIL did one at River Cottage and loved it.
We've since discovered that River Cottage do loads of different types of residential courses, from beekeeping to Cider making to watercolour painting!

Thanks guys. Wondering if RiceKrispie remembers me from a meet up to know that I'm in Edinburgh.

I'll check out cooking courses.

I know what'll happen when the Fringe brochure comes out - I'll find loads of stuff to take DS to and virtually nil for myself. I did manage one show and a meal with a friend last year, mind you. I fancy some of those naff disco type things, but they start really late. Might try and get a gang together for something like that.

Thanks again!

If you like riding it is a fantastic one, as the leaders are always really chatty.
I saw a library somewhere that was also a hotel, that DOES appeal.

I go walking by myself once a year. Add a nice B&B. It's heaven.
