Recommendations for Gower Peninsula

Hi - I'd be really grateful for any recommendations on where to stay in the Gower Peninsula this July. We're looking for self-catering accommodation near the beach and any recommendations for watersports courses for two boys (8 and 10). I'd be really grateful for any ideas as the area is completely unknown to me but we've wanted to go for a long time. Thanks.

Hi wozwiz,
There are lots of places you could look at staying, depending on what you and your children enjoy.
A good option is Mumbles or Langland where there are plenty of holiday lets. You have a really wide range of great restaurants and shops available and are walking distance to Langland beach which is a big surfing beach and where your boys would be able to get lessons for sure. The beach is life guard patrolled which offers good peace of mind if you have kids in and out of the sea. It is quite popular so can get busy on a sunny day which is worth keeping in mind. If you are driving down then you can always hop in the car and drive out to some more secluded beaches a bit further out on Gower.

If you’re after more seclusion then you could look to stay further down on Gower. Southgate is a lovely village and from there you can walk down to Pobbles and Three Cliffs beach which is breathtakingly beautiful. More traditional coastal villages are Horton and Port Eynon which have less going on but you’ll get a lovely fishing cottage and beautiful big sandy beaches. Rhossilli and Llanennith are the big surfing beaches right down on Gower. They are great, though very far out and possibly offer slightly more advanced surfing for your kids, though they’ll definitely get surfing lessons down there.
I’m a Gower resident and more than happy to help with any questions you may have. You will have a lovely holiday here I’m sure!

We had a great stay at Hillside Farm in one of the safari tents. We didn't have to bring any camping equipment and enjoyed the proper beds (which were already made up for us) and ensuite bathroom.
5 miles from Rhossili Bay which has been voted as one of the UK's best surfing beaches and has lots of watersports lessons available.
Playground
Shared pizza oven
Tour of the farm included in your stay. Guests can also help to collect eggs from the chickens and pick apples in the orchard. You can event rent your own private chicken coop with two chickens to feed and you can have all the eggs that they lay.
Well-stocked honesty shop, featuring yummy Welsh cakes and amazing, not-to-be-missed home-cooked food. What makes a holiday here really special is the simple fact that nothing is too much trouble for the owners.
You can ask for the Farmers' Stew kit where you will receive the recipe, ingredients and cooking utensils to prepare a delicious Farmers Stew at your tent, enough for 4-6 people.
Pubs and restaurants within walking distance.
