Booked a spontaneous weekend away in 2 weeks time with DP, 2 year old DS and 5 year old DN. We’ve got a self catering cottage in Rumford which I believe is between Padstow and Wadebridge.

First question -
We are driving down from Berkshire so any recommendations for good services on the way? Possibly need to get dinner en route depending on traffic.

I’ve done loads of research and tried to plan our days out, I’m nearly 8 months pregnant so too much walking is off but we are happy to put waterproofs on and venture outside if the weather is bad. Is there anything you wouldn’t bother with or I’m really missing out on? I can’t decide if Heligan is a must do, I’ve been to Eden Project and wasn’t a massive fan.

Lappa valley - picnic lunch
Watergate Bay - BBQ dinner on beach

Padstow boat trip
Crabbing & pasty lunch
Lobster Hatchery

Trevaskis PYO and farm - lunch
Crantock Beach ( fly kites and build sandcastles) & boat to tea shop

Crealy adventure park - Way Home

Any pub/restaurant recommendations very welcome, and a farm shop to get bbq meat from too!

Would you bother with wetsuits for kids? I was planning on just rolling trousers/sleeves up

Thanks!

Oh and is it worth going to Rick Steins for fish and chips or are they all much the same?

I wouldn't bother with wetsuits.

The Hog and Hedge hogandhedge.co.uk is perfect for a stop, right at the Whiddon Down junction on the A30 after Exeter, about 1hr20mins from Padstow. It sells organic teas, fresh homemade food, it has a play area, pristine loos and changing facilities. It stocks local products. We love it but it's only open until 7pm.

Crealy Adventure Park is good and is just up the road from the amazing Greendale Farm Shop.

If you take the M5 you'll go right last Diggerland!

If it rains when you're in Newquay, go to the Blue Reef aquarium. I really hope it doesn't rain but whatever the weather, have a lovely time.
