Luxury with DC near Bath/Bristol

I spent aaages planning a sunny beach holiday just before DS (4) starts school, only to realise we're going to a wedding in Bath, so can't Sad
To temper the disappointment, I'd like a few days somewhere luxurious for the three of us near Bath or Bristol.
We all like swimming, DH and I like spas and good food, DS likes exploring outside.
Where's good? We're traveling by train.

There's Bath Spa. I think you can swim there.

Stourhead isn't too far and nice and explorery.

LARLARLAND · 18/04/2018 20:02

Woolly Grange is good.

Minniemountain · 18/04/2018 20:10

I've heard of Woolly Grange. Will have a look. Thank you.
I'm after specific hotels/"resorts" can't think of the word as I'm knackered

Lucknam Park if your after luxury!

Bath Spa is an adult-only spa, as far as I know, so no good for a 4-year-old. There's a CenterParcs not far from Bath (Longleat) if that's your sort of thing - swimming, some spa-type stuff, not sure about good food, and Longleat Safari Park with adventure playgrounds etc is right next door.

Everytimeref · 18/04/2018 20:20

Bath spa is adult only I believe.

Bellie99 · 18/04/2018 20:24

Lucknam Park, the manor at castle Coombe

JenBarber · 18/04/2018 20:26

There is a leisure centre. Used to have slides and stuff and be really nice.

Bowood, near Chippenham. Train is about 12 minutes from Bath and it's do-able by taxi from Chippenham.

Manor House, Castle Combe. Less easy to get to.

OP have you booked yet?

Close to Bath I would suggest:
Bath Priory
(cheaper) Macdonald Bath Spa

Further out
Woolley Grange (Bradford)
Calcot Manor (Tetbury)
Babington
Lucknam Park (Chippenham - gorgeous)
Bishopstrow (near Longleat)

I need to get my annual leave confirmed but we'll probably book Woolley Grange. It looks amazing, plus it's easy to get to after the wedding.

I’m staying at Woolley Grange at the moment if you have any questions.

Minniemountain · 16/05/2018 07:33

Tobebythesea yes please. I booked it yesterday.
Did you arrive before check in time to use the facilities?
What is high tea like? DS is 4, so we'll probably do that for him.
Is the spa any good?

Lucknam Park or Wooley Grange

Tobebythesea · 16/05/2018 10:03

Yes, you can use the facilities before check in e.g. pool, the garden and the beautiful walled garden.

Our little girl loves high tea. It has to be pre booked on the day before 4pm. About 7 different choices including roast chicken, fish, lots of pasta dishes etc. We go for the toddler size and it’s massive.

The indoor pool is small but warm and the spa looks nice. I’m having a hot stone massage this afternoon so I’ll report back!

Tobebythesea · 20/05/2018 18:18

Feeding back - the hot stone massage was divine. Enjoy!
