Things to do in Norfolk

We're going to Norfolk for 2 weeks in August staying at a relatives holiday home in Heacham. We've been there a few times and have done go karting in Cromer, golf and tennis in Hunstanton, bike rides and the beach at Wells but can anyone recommend anything else? we have four boys of 14, 14, 13 and 9. We've had a tough year financially and thankfully are not having to pay for accommodation so would like some recommendations to make this a fun but cheapish holiday...

Lots of good suggestions above.

Crabbing - try Wells or Burnham Overy, you need it just coming up to high tide. Hire canoes and go up the creeks (time it right with tides, don't get stuck in mud). Woods behind the dunes (eg at Holkham) great for den making etc etc - easy to spend whole days there.

There's a little theatre at Wells I think. Also lots of little galleries scattered about along coast - good for mooching if kids will let you.

Farmers market at North Creake.

Look out for gala days, village fetes etc through summer.

BTW - oasis (the pool with slide in Hunstanton) is tiny!

Quite a way though, Heacham over to Yarmouth or the Broads.

I agree Bewilderwood too young for yours.

There are usually various Fairs and Fetes going on somewhere.

To book to see the seals on Blakeney point google ferry times Blakeney Point Seal trips. Boats run by Bishops, Bean or Temples. They go at different times, depending on tides.

The Steam Engine Museum at Thursford? They have traction engines, a couple of steam driven fairground rides and loads of old steam dance hall organs like the Mighty Wurlitzer that they play in turn. Depends on your teens. It isn’t all that thrilling.

No theatre in Wells: Sheringham or end of Pier in Cromer. Or Kings Lynn.

Surf school at cromer?

When are you going? There's a great cromer festival in the summer with kids activities spread over two weeks. The red arrows will by flying over on carnival day which is a Wednesday mid August (sorry cant recal date as everything on a paper calendar at home). I think thats the end of the carnival day. There's also fireworks in the evening. I'll be at the family beach hut that day Grin.

Also dare I day it? Car boot sales. There's tonnes of them and all through the week. Kids can spend some pennies on tat fairly cheaply (disclaimer. Not all of it is tat!)

Warning. Car parking can be a pain in cromer during festival week...

Crabbing - buy cheap bacon as bait!
