South Hams, Devon. Cottage from Toad Hall cottages. There is however not too much to do in the driving rain- maybe a city break would offer more entertainment? (I'd pick Liverpool for that)

Ricekrispie22 · 01/04/2018 18:55

The Isle of Wight. There's so much to do within such a small area.

Yogagirl123 · 01/04/2018 18:58

Hire a cottage, with a hot tub or pool. Somerset is lovely, Suffolk or Norfolk. Or Center Parcs ideal for little ones.

Heathcliff27 · 01/04/2018 18:59

Primrose valley, beside scarborough. We drove down from northern scotland, well worth the travel. Loads to do in the area

TroysMammy · 01/04/2018 18:59

Isle of Wight lots to see and do and easy to get around.

Yogagirl123 · 01/04/2018 19:00

Perhaps try snaptrip, I think they allow you to search by driving time. Worth a look.

JennyHolzersGhost · 01/04/2018 19:02

Broadstairs / Margate / Rye / Whitstable depending on your style. Rent an Airbnb.

monkeysee100 · 01/04/2018 19:05

Tenby/saundersfoot. Lovely relaxed holidays. We've stayed in a nice b&b and an air bnb and thoroughly enjoyed both.

Sidmouth is quite nice, st Ives, Newquay too. Not massively fussed on westward ho but Jurassic coast is beautiful

tigercub50 · 01/04/2018 19:08

I loved Tenby! Also Lyme Regis. Great beach & lovely along the prom too.

We love Bluestone and exploring Pembrokeshire.

MinnieMousse · 01/04/2018 19:20

Suffolk - have spent two Easter holidays there between Southwold and Aldeburgh. Was lucky with the weather both times though.

BackforGood · 01/04/2018 19:22

On the South coast, for a 5 yr old, try Swanage or Weymouth

fortunatepiggy1 · 02/04/2018 11:17

Thanks all
Isle of Wight looks popular...

Where is the best place to stay there? Never been...

Isle of Wight is lovely Shanklin is a village to stay in, but bear in mind to factor in the ferry crossing, that isn’t cheap.

MsGameandWatching · 02/04/2018 12:38

Cornwall. Around Looe and Polperro. Only during term time though. Hell on Earth in the school holidays 😩

VanGoghsLeftEar · 02/04/2018 12:40

New Forest. We hired a cottage in Burley, and had ponies round for tea! My daughter loved meeting the free roaming donkeys too. Cider making farms, cycling, hiking, tons of adventures. Good walks, good pubs, not far from Christchurch for the beach.

Ricekrispie22 · 02/04/2018 15:16

Looks like they might still have accommodation here. www.hoseasons.co.uk/holiday-parks/nodes-point-pnod?adult=2&nights=7&range=3&start=3-4-2018&sortorder=12
Not exactly high society, but clean, affordable and indoor pool (with water slide!!). Direct beach access too.
I agree with AP that Shanklin is great, but this isn't a bad location either. Wet weather activities nearby include the Steam Railway and the amazing Dinosaur Isle museum. It's only 20 minutes drive to Newport, the capital. Robin Hood Country Park is a great day out for a 5yo. There's also Carrisbrooke Castle, a butterfly greenhouse, a shipwreck museum and JR Zone which is the best indoor play centre.

Thanks lovely mumsnetters

I would go with Shanklin, personally. Ventnor is very hilly. Not sure about the others. If you chose another location try to visit Shanklin, it is really pretty and they are some attractions there also. Have a lovely holiday.

fortunatepiggy1 · 04/04/2018 21:44

Thanks all

The east coast is lovely. Frinton has pristine white beaches and flat warm sea...we have small kids so it is ideal. Whitstable is fun and close to lots of day trips (Canterbury/royal Chatham dockyard something or other)

millimat · 08/04/2018 22:32

What did you decide?

fortunatepiggy1 · 09/04/2018 19:33

Nothing! 😩We are sat here in the rqin! Going to try and find somewhere tonight to go tomorrow for a few days

Woodovis Park at Halloween or Brownscombe luxury glamping
