Hello, may have a weekend in Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire next month as DH has to go to Derby for a work-related thing one Monday so we were considering making a weekend of it, mostly because we have friends in Derby & Leicester who could meet up with us. Any suggestions on things to do/see? We don't drive unfortunately. Also any suggestions on a nice enough, cheap place to stay in Nottingham?

Would your local friends not recommend somewhere?
Trickier without driving, but in that part of the Country I'd be looking for a lovely walk, but it depends what you like to do.
Will it just be you and dh? No dc?

Fairhaven is nice and reasonably priced. It's a B&B with double, twin and family rooms. There are several good pubs within walking distance.
Beeston Railway station which is one stop before Nottingham, is 5min walking distance from the Hotel. Beeston has a mainline railway station, which is served by Midland Mainline and Central Train services. Midland Mainline trains run hourly on Monday to Friday through most of the day, from London St Pancras as far as Nottingham or Sheffield. Central Trains run regularly from Cardiff and Derby to Nottingham or Skegness.

Well the only friend who actually lives there is one who lives in Derby. She has recommended Derby cathedral and the Quad which is apparently some sort of art gallery in Derby so we will probably visit there with her one day, maybe the Sunday. It will just be DH and I yes.
