Just that really, not necessarily in need of a spa, somewhere to relax, feel safe, unwind maybe potter around lovely independent shops and cafes. Does somewhere exist? somewhere within 2 hrs of midlands?

Matlock bath, the peaks, Ashbourne?

Just a personal opinion but I wouldn't spend too much on a hotel. What about getting a Premier Inn/Ibis type place which will be clean and comfy and then splashing out on a fab restaurant and taxi to and from hotel.
