Scotland in February

We are looking to go to Scotland this half term (February) for a week. Looking for recommendations for somewhere amazing to book.

We have two kids, toddler and primary school age.

Would like an unusual experience. Not scared of the cold! So outdoors is fine. Good food.

We have already been to Edinburgh so ideally would love to explore somewhere new.

Any ideas?

Harvest Moon is brilliant but might be too close to Edinburgh if you're wanting to explore somewhere else. It's a collection of treehouses, safari tents and a cottage on a working farm in East Lothian. The treehouses are really special and all of them have swings and a 'love seat' hanging underneath. There is a substantial staircase up and sturdy railings around the deck, so no chance of anybody falling off. I don't think that having a toddler would be a problem staying in these. The owners allow guests to get fully involved with the animals on the farm and you can handle the lop ear rabbits, feed lambs and collect eggs from the hens.

If you like the outdoors then you might be interested in one of the two Forest Holidays Parks in Scotland. We've stayed at a Forest Holidays cabin and enjoyed the den building, forest ranger workshops, bike hire, nature trails, -massages-, night walks and archery.

Crieff Hydro is always popular with families, Aviemore, Auchrannie Resort in Arran, Forest holiday lodges at Strathyre (not far from Stirling), Inverness area is super.
We like staying in/around Dundee but the V&A opens in September so perhaps go there another time?

How about the Atholl Palace in Pitlochry? Good facilities for children and lots to do locally.

The Galloway Forest is a great destination. Tons to see and do, including the Dark Sky Park (perfect for those long February nights), the deer and goat park, castles, the lovely Solway Coast, pretty towns like Wigtown, mountain bike trails. There is a lot of self-catering accommodation in the park. This looks quite good: www.cloudcuckoolodge.co.uk/mobile/. See generally scotland.forestry.gov.uk/forest-parks/galloway-forest-park
