Talking to dd about where we should go on holiday but we can’t agree on a place to go. I have 2 dd’s age 12 and 14, both dd’s Have ASD and struggle with busy places, we can only go away during school holidays but prices are so high Sad so we are limited. Maximum budget of £500 but would rather be around £400 so we have money left for a weekend away during the summer too. So I’m looking at summer half term, mon-fri.

We have been to Cornwall many times, I love it, dd2 loves it but dd1 says she’s fed up of beaches. We went to Wales last summer, it was nice but I’m not sure if we want to go again.

So, I need a quite location, dd1 likes wildlife but doesn’t like walking very far, she also likes history, old building and castles. Dd2 loves the beach.

So ideally we would like somewhere near the sea but with other things to do for dd1.

Any ideas?

Another vote for Northumberland! Beaches , castles, plenty to do. Great fish n chips too! We have stayed near Bamburgh which is a good location for all the main attractions.
Also Norfolk is amazing. Wonderful beaches but not quite so historical.

Kent is great for castles and historic things. Plus pretty seaside towns such as Whitstable, Ramsgate.

I'm from the NE and love Northumberland. I also love Yorkshire. Whitby is a favourite, and Sandsend. My ASD child loves the sea (but we live in a landlocked country now, so it's a real treat for us)

I was going to say Dorset too... a different bit of Dorset to "your" bit could feel special? Or across to the new forest. Lyme Regis and lulworth and Swanage are all quite different in their own way.

We stayed in nolton haven in Wales which was lovely and different coastline again to Dorsert or Cornwall. Castles etc. Bristol has some fun national trust places near by and wookey hole for something different.

Rainbow I have on dd that loves the sea, would spend all day there, the other hates it, hates sand in her toes and hates the water. It’s so hard trying to find somewhere to please everyone. Dd1 wants to go to Wales, dd2 loves Cornwall as she loves to bodyboard.

I loved Llandudno in North Wales. Nice Victorian seaside town with lots to do nearby too.

I am in the North East - Scarborough could be n idea? Lots of things close by or within an hour's drive e.g. Whitby and York. Could get a b&b cheap enough.

The Normans built a shed load of castles in Pembrokeshire. It's good for surfing too. Manorbier for example is pretty, quiet and has a castle and a beach.

Kent / Sussex borders are good for history: Rye, Battle (as in Battle of Hastings), Bodiam Castle, Scotney Castle, Knowle, Sissinghurst, Igtham Mote, Rudyard Kipling's place (Batemans). You definitley get your money's worth with a NT membership!

Northumberland is a hell of a drive from Dorset - beautiful scenery, though.

Lake District?

North Norfolk could be good: g for the N Norfolk coast, you can get mobile homes at Pinewoods in Wells, and other places near Sheringham. Or Kelling Heath holiday park.

History: Blicklilng Hall, Binham Priory, Walsingham. Norwich Castle.

Wildlife and animals: Seal trips from Morston Quay to get close to the seals (book in advance, they go at different times depending on the tide), Shire Horse Centre at Sheringham, birdwatching at Cley Marshes - visit the centre on the road between Cley and Salthouse, walk down to the bird hides. The nature boardwalk across the marsh to the sea at Titchwell. Fossil hunting in West Runton beach (hah - it's not as good as Charmouth, obv) and see the hairy mammoth skeleton on the tiny museum at Cromer.

N Norfolk is a bit shit if it rains. Not many indoor attractions: cinema at Cromer, Blickling Hall, swimming pool at Sheringham or just put your waterproofs on.
