What to do in Glasgow with an 11yo

I'm travelling up to Glasgow for a weekend with dc (11) in the next few weeks, we have free time all of Saturday day time.

My Mum has suggested we visit The Willow Tea Rooms, The Lighthouse, The Mackintosh House and the Hungarian Art Gallery but she loves Charles Rennie Mackintosh so I'm not sure if that will be too much for dc!

We are reliant on public transport and are staying near Argyle Street Friday night so anywhere we go needs to be accessible by bus, train or the subway(?).

DC is not a football fan so a tour of the football grounds is not an option. She is quite easy going and enjoys most things, it's just knowing what is good for children and what is a tourist rip off.

The Huntarian is good. For an 11year old I’d also recommend the Riverside Museum - it’s the transport museum.

We also love Kelvingrove art galleries.

The Glasgow Science Centre is very cool and you could easily spend a day there especially if you include a trip to the onsite IMAX.

Bus tour, then you can see everything and get on and off at anything you fancy. George Sq ice rink might be up and running by the time you arrive and that’s just beside Argyle st xx

The Huntarian and Kelvingrove are accessible by underground.

The Science centre is in a few different bus routes, check their website - I believe you can also hop on the sight seeing your bus at the SECC and walk across the Clyde to it.

You might also want to visit the Provans Lordship. It’s the oldest house in Glasgow, built in the 1470s.

The bus tour is good. We really enjoyed looking at all the huge wall paintings around the city that the tour guide pointed out, wouldn't have spotted them all ourselves. Yes also to the Science Centre.

I'm liking the idea of the bus tour so we can hop on and off at will. I have 4dc so going off on an adventure with one on a single hander will be novelty

I think we are not especially near a subway station - looking at a map we are staying at the Finnieston St end of Argyle St, approx 1--15 minutes walk from the SSE Hydro. I am guessing the Exhibition Centre train station might have a tourist info/station staff who can point us in the direction of the bus tour or touristy stuff.

The walking mural tour is good if it’s not raining.

Bus tour is booked . I think we are 10 minutes from stop 17 so can pick it up from there and see what takes our fancy. Brilliant suggestion, thank you.

So we have just returned from Glasgow!! Thank you for all the suggestions - it really did help

We had tickets to see Little Mix at the SSE Hydro and could only get flights Fri-Sun which is why we had time to fill!

The Tour Bus was a massive hit, thank you. We were staying 5 minutes walk from a stop. We enjoyed the Riverside and the Kelvingrove but I messed up with the Huntarian so we missed the museum and admired art instead!

The Willow Tea Rooms appeared to be shut for a refurb and DD didn’t fancy the Macintosh House. But actually, the bus tour filled our day by the time we hopped on/off in search of food and drink as well!

I found your city to be a lovely place to visit and have told dh that we will be returning one day (without dc) as I’m wanting to wander round the necropolis, all of the museums and maybe even squeeze in some shopping (although we had to do a bit as DD realised when we arrived at the airport (1.5 hrs drive fand on home) that she’d forgotten her coat...
