Is a Haven holiday really tacky?

Visiting from NZ, and we could stay in a luxury cottage for a fortnight here for what Centerparcs want for 4 nights (July).

Have 1 ds (4 years old) and really need to have a kitchen as I am coeliac and he is allergic to everything!

My mum and dad recommended Hafan y Mor Haven holiday park, as they went recently. However they are obese and so could have been more swayed by the vast quantities of food they got to consume daily (were in half board). They were also on a special offer and anywhere would be good for 10 pounds a day.

We don't really have anything like Haven holidays in NZ and so I can't decide if it's a taste free zone or good value self catering accommodation near to stuff we want to see.

Came back from haven devon cliffs, couple of weeks ago, i got a free holiday from a code on money saving expert.co.uk, for free it was great ,but i wouldnt pay much to go, we used it as a b ase and were off site except for the pool twice. Food look poor, so we ate out or had cold stuff. Oh and there was no microwave so i had to heat stuff on hob so didnt feel like a holiday.
It was cold at night but to be fair it was march and site is on cliff top so is to be expected and it was warmer when we left gas heater on overnight, i was too scared to first night!

burstingbug if you go via exeter be sure to call in at darts farm, organic groceries store with lots of pretty craft etc. but we actually loved it for the breakfasts, poached eggs and toast and lovely omlettes, tad pricey but highlight of our holiday! website \link{http://www.dartsfarm.co.uk/here} but not much help at the moment.

Oh and the beach is lovely especially early in the morning when its quiet!

Thanks Littleducks.
In laws are driving, but will advise them we take that route

There should have been a microwave. I would have told reception to bring one over.

littleducks · 16/04/2007 13:54

no, they dont have microwaves except for in the most expensive caravans where they change linen etc.

princessmel · 16/04/2007 14:03

We had a microwave and we weren't in the most expensive. Maybe not the cheapest but not a GOLD!

littleducks · 16/04/2007 14:08

lucky you! I think as each caravan is indiv ually owned that is why the standards vary but we werent expectingt one after checking their website.

Thanks all - have decided now that a narrow boat is the way to go, and have started another thread hoping that Tillerman boats are okay.
