For a couple of nights stay on a budget?

Any ideas?

Ibis by the station? If your budget is really really tight the YHA is a rather nice one! There's a hilton in the centre which i fear is shockingly expensive and there's a dodgy-looking travelodge a mile or so out which you'll want to avoid.

i stayed here a couple of years ago when it was part of the Best Western franchise. I really liked and managed to get good offers. It is now independent so that might have changed. Cambridge was jolly expensive and i was there in November so no good reason for the high prices.

Sounding less appealing now.

Maybe York.

Tbh if you're only coming here for a weekend away i wouldn't bother. I live here. Its boring as fuck. Parts of the centre are pretty along the river but thats it. I'd deffo go to york much nicer.

NikiBabe · 12/09/2017 04:14

Haha. Thank you so much for your honesty Gladys that made me laugh.Grin

I grew up in Cambridge and would love to move back, I love it deeply. That said, I probably wouldn't advise going on a Saturday - it does get very busy. Sundays are slightly less manic, especially if you avoid the shops.

I would never say it's boring though, especially if you like old buildings. The colleges are beautiful, the river is lovely, and there are numerous nice pubs and restaurants. I could honestly spend days just wandering around taking photos.

NikiBabe · 12/09/2017 12:31

Ah yes forgot to say I lived there a little bit as a child. Not sure I will remember anything but I would like to go and look at my old house and my old school.

There's a premier inn and travellodge in the centre now

keely79 · 12/09/2017 12:40

Are you going in term time or in holidays? In holidays, you might be able to rent a room in one of the colleges (www.meet-cambridge.com/event-type-page/accommodation) - can be very budget friendly way of staying right in the centre.

NikiBabe · 12/09/2017 12:42

Thanks Keely I didnt know about that.

I just saw an ad on instagram for return fares by train to Cambridge for £7 and that just got me thinking why not if train fares are so cheap.

So not really planned the specifics yet.

Sorry one way fares for £7. IT would be £14 return.
