I have a day in London nrxt week and I'd like to do something different - rather than just shopping with my 2 teens.
I thought i could get the tube from st Paul's to emerates cable car (not sure whick dide though) then get the clipper to Westminster. Does anyone know how i do this? Does the boat only go from one side of the thames? Wondering if i can get a single way cable ticket and hop on the clipper from where the cable car finishes? Dont know London very well and can't figure out the best way of making this journey!

Cable car goes to the O2 and you can get the clipper back from there . We found the cable car a little under whelming .

nancy75 · 30/07/2017 12:50

The cable car is rubbish

Gettingonwithit1 · 30/07/2017 12:56

Oh. That doesn't sound too good😏. I thought the view would be good as we've never bern to that part of London. Maybe a need to rethink! We've never been on the clipper either and thought we'd get a different niew of the city.

In what way underwhelming/rubbish? We were thinking of doing similar in a few weeks.

Just to answer one of your points, yes you can get a ticket which just takes you one way on the cable car.
You also get a reduction on tickets for that and the Thames Clipper if you have an Oyster card or a Travelcard.

I think you need to be looking at reaching the DLR station at Royal Victoria.

MadisonAvenue · 30/07/2017 13:02

We thought is was pretty good, and a cheap way to get a good view of that part of the city. I'd say it's worth doing. The Clipper is definitely worth it too.

Gettingonwithit1 · 30/07/2017 13:13

Madison - thanks. I do have oyster cards. I just need one changed to child fares when i get to kings cross. So i can get the DLR from Bank. I was planning to visit the roof garden at One True Change so that wouldn't be far from Bank i think.

The boat is good but the cable car is a lot of messing about for something that lasts 10 minutes. There is nothing much else near the cable car so you are going out to Greenwich for nothing really ( it's not even close to proper Greenwich so you don't even get to see that)

AccrualIntentions · 30/07/2017 13:21

I liked the cable car, but we were at the o2 anyway. I'm not sure I'd make a special trip all the way out there just for that one thing.

Gettingonwithit1 · 30/07/2017 13:26

Maybe I'll just take a trip on the clipper this time

Try SkyGarden instead if you're looking for views? Free although you have to book:

skygarden.london/sky-garden skygarden.london/sky-garden

You could then walk to the river to pick up the Thames Clipper from London Bridge to Westminster.

Rachie1986 · 30/07/2017 13:30

I loved cable car!

Gettingonwithit1 · 30/07/2017 13:32

Thanks. I did think about the sky garden but there are no free tickets for when im there. Lunch seems the only option which is quite pricey!

The Thames clipper is great. Could you combine it with the London Eye instead? The boat leaves from there. (No clue on the cost of the eye )

BlackFingers · 30/07/2017 13:48

Came across this near St.Paul's, not heard of it before but appears to be free:

One New Change Rooftop

Have fun, Thames Clipper is good.

We loved the cable car too - it's fun and the views are pretty, though there's very little to do on the O2 side. You can climb O2 roof for £££ or eat in one of the chain restaurants inside, if you want to but that's about it. First time we just went there and straight back. It's not expensive and you get a reduction with a travelcard (maybe with oyster too?. Then Thames Clipper from Greenwich is a gorgeous boat ride that takes in all the sights. You can stay on until London Eye. That's cheaper with a travelcard too.
I think it sounds like a lovely day. Greenwich is gorgeous though, so I'd be tempted to spend more time there. DC loved the maritime museum when they were little, and pedalos in Greenwich park, standing on the meridian line, the observatory, the market, Cutty Sark, Queen's House, buskers. Lots going on round there.

Gettingonwithit1 · 30/07/2017 14:37

Thanks. I'll ask them what they'd like to do in Greenwich and decide from there. I'm definately going to do the clipper. That sounds really good.
